An ongoing art show in Delhi turns nerdy code into feminist textiles

Alida Sun appears on my screen wearing a bejewelled face mask, with charms hanging from the delicate chains wrapped around it. Oversized sunglasses and bangs cover the rest of her face. When I ask her why she’s kitted out so mysteriously, she explains, “I’m usually very aware of my biometric data, and I just find that anonymity saves a lot of time, especially as a woman.”. Ten minutes later, we’re chatting about how much we both love the internet. “I think there was a really wonderful, very femme digital culture that I was fortunate to grow up in,” says the New York–raised artist who now lives in Berlin. She’s referring to the early days of the internet—Tumblr pages, personal blogs, fan forums and niche online communities—spaces that were often shaped by young women and queer users. Visual experimentation, aesthetics and creative work flourished in such environments. “It was very normal, especially for girls, to customise their own digital environments. I loved creating my own digital spaces, my own sites, all of that.”. Despite her many creative interests, Sun didn’t think she was going to be an artist. She didn’t pursue a formal education in fine art. Instead, she studied engineering. “I needed a job but I could see that the place that I ended up working at—one of those zombie juggernaut corporations—was a sinking ship. And so, growing up being fascinated by code, the digital culture, creating my own sites, all of that dovetailed into meeting many kind, welcoming people within the code art community. They were creating these incredible light installations,” she says. “That’s when I got into programming, because I knew I wanted to create some of my own.”

A velvety nude lip completes the understated palette.. Krithi Shetty’s beauty look channels soft romance with loose, cascading waves and glowing skin. Sonali Bendre ushers in summer with her patchwork Abu Sandeep kurta set

When Sonali Bendre arrived at filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya’s daughter’s wedding reception, she set the tone for the summer with a vibrant kurta set. Dressed in a colourful ensemble by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, the actor embraced a vibrant palette that brought together craft and comfort.. Featuring a straight, pheran-style kurta, the actor’s look is composed of striking multi-coloured panels in shades of orange, aquamarine and yellow. It was rounded off with coordinated palazzo pants and an airy orange dupatta. The interplay of colour blocking and traditional craft lent the outfit a bohemian spirit, yet its tailored structure ensured it remained Reception-ready.. According to Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, the set belongs to their ‘Banjara’ repertoire, a line that celebrates nomadic craft traditions through contemporary silhouettes. “Sonali Bendre is a joyous vision in Banjara by Abu Sandeep,” the designer duo shared. “The freshest peach, blue and yellow pastel hues come alive to create the perfect sartorial welcome to spring. The patchwork kali kurta, crafted in silk, features multicolour resham embroidery punctuated with mirror work.” The designers also note that the piece draws inspiration from their vintage’ Rabadi’ collection, translating heritage techniques into a modern context. The result is what they describe as “bohemian grace reinvented for the 21st century woman, where craft, art and attitude converge in spirited harmony.” A memoni and organza dupatta adds a wispy contrast to the rich fabric and intricate embroidered surface of the kurta.. Bendre styled the look with a sculptural gold choker with matching drop earrings and stacked kadas. Metallic stilettos and a clutch served as the finishing touches. For glam, she went with a matte base and smoky eyes in shades of burnt orange that complemented the palette of the outfit, along with a nude pink lipstick.

22 best vintage dresses on the Oscars red carpet

With stars often channelling old Hollywood glamour at the Oscars, it’s no surprise that vintage has been a popular choice on the red carpet over the years. In fact, it could be considered a good-luck charm: Julia Roberts won her Oscar for Best Actress in 2001 while wearing a black and white gown from Valentino’s autumn/winter 1992 couture collection; Reese Witherspoon wore a vintage Dior dress dating back to 1957 when she was named Best Actress in 2006; while Penélope Cruz won Best Supporting Actress in 2009, dressed in a 1950s Balmain gown.. More recently, archival looks have become an increasingly regular occurrence, with pulling trophy vintage now seen as the ultimate red carpet flex. In 2020, Margot Robbie wore a ’90s Chanel gown for the main ceremony, while Kim Kardashian sourced Alexander McQueen’s famous ‘Oyster dress’ from spring/summer 2003 for the Vanity Fair after-party. Meanwhile, at the 2024 ceremony, Carey Mulligan sported a recreation of a 1951 Balenciaga gown featuring a dramatic white tulle train.. Below, see 22 of the best vintage dresses at the Oscars to date

Horoscope Today: March 14, 2026

More than your logical moves, your mind and energy are trumping what you are feeling in your life right now, Leo. Your intuitive wisdom and your specific insights are what are realigning you with the path that is unfolding in front of you. No one is ever the same as they were a year ago, in fact, even your very cells are different. And you are now willing to bring more awareness to your daily life and interactions. Get that fire going. Libra, you have been onto something, if not in your reality at least in your mind. And hey, this is the time you feel most drawn to making life happen. The only thing is that you need to be crystal clear on your intentions and vision. When your heart is in the right place you can see everything much more clearly, Sag. It is time for you to assume your leadership skills and power and perhaps even learn to manage your resources and time graciously. Things will finally find their own order and structure as long as you keep coming back to your fundamentals. If you have been feeling depleted take it as your sign to really nourish yourself Aquarius. Eat right and sleep well. Stretch your body and mind. Listen to the prompt to slow down and make presence your priority. You don’t need to master life in one go. You simply need to engage with your surroundings with more awareness.. Read on for what the stars have in store for you, and make sure you check out your sun, moon and rising signs for the complete picture.. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Not just yet. You may want your garden landscaped and your garden pruned to perfection, Aries, but first it must grow. Instead of micromanaging your days and goals, give your worries and cares to your angels. Try this. Each night before you go to bed, mentally have a chat with your angels telling them about everything you are worried about and end this conversation with—please handle this for me and let me know what I need to do. Within 7=10 days you will either receive ideas or things will begin moving. Either way, act on them and watch things turn for the better.. Cosmic tip: Clear your space and detox your mind, body, spirit.. Love in your life somehow always felt incomplete, Taurus, even when you were surrounded by it. And it is not you, it is not them. It is simply the depth of what you feel and how your mind and heart process your emotions based on past experiences. Your energy may have felt scattered, and those multiple situationships you may have been part of physically or energetically may have left traces in you. Nothing to worry about. Just pay attention to what your body and emotions say. Sit with them. Feel them and process them. Focus on your highest priorities and let the rest slide.
