Kriti Sanon’s metallic green liner and Alia Bhatt’s monochromatic glam were the stars of this week’s best beauty looks

This week’s beauty looks struck the perfect balance between soft glam and statement detailing, complementing both Indian and western ensembles. From luminous skin and monochrome palettes to bold, eye-focused experimentation, each look felt unique and well-coordinated. While Priyanka Chopra leaned into her signature dewy elegance, Kriti Sanon stood out with a striking, unconventional eye look that instantly draws attention.. Madhuri Dixit’s look this week leaned into glamour with a smooth satin-finish base, placing her eyes in focus, defined with warm brown and bronze tones blended into the crease, paired with precise liner and volumised lashes that enhanced her eye shape. Structured brows added definition, while a softly sculpted cheek with blush placed along the cheekbones lifted the face. Her rose-brown lip complemented the warmth of the look, keeping it elegant and classic.. The brief for Bhumi Pednekkar’s look this week was sultry glam with an experimental fringe. Her base was luminous with subtle highlighting across the high points of the face, enhancing her bone structure. Her eyes featured blended dark brown tones with a softly diffused liner that added intensity, while her lashes remained naturally lifted. Slightly arched brows sharpened the look and a soft nude-pink lip kept the focus on her glowing complexion. Minimal blush placed high on the cheeks completed this contemporary aesthetic.. Priyanka Chopra’s look was all about refined, dewy radiance with a luminous base that felt fresh and hydrated. Perfectly groomed brows frame her face, while a soft wash of rosy pink eyeshadow kept the eyes subtle. Her long, fluttery lashes took centre stage, opening up the eyes without the need for heavy liner. A terracotta-pink blush placed high on the cheeks added lift and her lips, in a matching dewy shade brought cohesion to the look. Paired with a side-parted blowout, the overall effect was elegant and impactful.. With bold, fun and unconventional eye makeup that perfectly complements her green outfit, Kriti Sanon’s striking green glitter eyeliner along the lower lash line was the focal point, contrasted with softly blended pinkish-mauve eyeshadow on the lids with a hint of subtle shimmer. Heavy mascara on the upper lashes amplified the drama, while the rest of the face was toned down with a very light blush for a subtle wash of colour and lips in a matching pink-mauve shade to maintain harmony. Her softly waved, highlighted hair framed the face, balancing the boldness of the eyes.. Taapsee Pannu’s makeup leaned into natural glam this week with a warm, skin-first base that had a gentle glow rather than high shine. Her eyes featured diffused brown tones and a smudged liner that enhanced shape without looking harsh, paired with brushed-up, full brows. A high-placed flush of rosy blush lit her face, while her lips were glossed in a pink tone, tying the look together. Her natural curls framed the face beautifully, adding volume and softness to t

Instagram is ruining adult friendships. Don’t let it come for yours

Going through ten different online vocal stims with a friend who actually gets it is a good time in its own way. But these days, even when we are physically together, our minds still remain online. Most conversations now have the familiar intrusion of “Did you see this tweet?” or “Did you see that post?”—and the one I dread most: “Did you see what that celebrity ate/wore/did/said last night?” The answer is almost always no. Which means there is then an attempt to narrate a reel or reconstruct a tweet out loud. Halfway through, the idea begins to sound stupider than it did when we saw it on the screen. We abandon the effort and the phone is passed across the table. For a moment, all of us look away from each other to look down at the device.. I love social media. It has introduced me to so many people I never would have met otherwise. Through it, we can exist in a thousand places at once, connected to lives far from our own. Five years ago, I happened to become friends with someone who lived in another country. Since then, both of us have moved here and there for work. Our friendship exists almost entirely online, interrupted only by the occasional trip we make to see each other once or twice a year. He is still the first person I call when something significant happens. If we had spent the last five years only sending each other reels and leaving 🔥 emojis under each other’s posts, we would not have the friendship that we do. We have a great friendship because we understand each other, something that only became possible through the long calls and conversations we shared. The internet made the introduction possible but it did not build the relationship. We did that part ourselves.. It is the gift of social media to give us connection without proximity. It keeps people within reach and preserves acquaintances who might otherwise fade. For that, it is generous. But a downside of this transaction is that we start to mistake being informed about somebody’s life for being close to them. You could know what someone ate for dinner, where they travelled or what they wore to a wedding and still not know how they are. There was a time when seeing someone required planning around them. Now it is possible to encounter fragments of people’s lives without either person intending to. We confuse this steady stream of fragments with maintenance—we say we are “caught up”. And most adult friendships tend to fall prey to this catch-up trap.. Can you imagine if Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey never hung out at Central Perk, or if Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda only talked on a group chat? The kind of close friendships they had wouldn’t exist at all. The future of human connection might actually be in the past—not in some nostalgic way, but in a purely practical one. Friendship used to be built in the ordinary: going to the supermarket together, going on walks just to talk, sitting around doing nothing at all. T

5 signs of a pathological liar you should watch out for

“Pathological liar” has become a convenient insult to anyone we love to hate, from corrupt politicians to reality-show “villains.” The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is the latest example, where castmates and viewers alike are lobbing the term at Jen Affleck over earlier claims about her husband’s alleged gambling and her supposed relation to actor Ben Affleck. But what actually qualifies a person’s dishonesty as “pathological”?. Despite the popular image of someone deceitful, conniving and cartoonishly evil, the label only applies to a very small subset of people in reality—and it comes with very specific qualifications. “It’s a behavioural pattern, not a standalone illness recognised in the DSM-5,” says Christina Ni, a Los Angeles–based psychiatrist and the National Interventional Psychiatry Medical Director at Mindpath Health. “And it isn’t simply about deception: The behaviour may look manipulative on the surface, but underneath, it usually reflects deeper psychological distress and vulnerability.”. In other words, a true pathological liar isn’t necessarily someone trying to ruin your life or win every fight—which is why you should watch out for these telltale signs instead.. 1. Their lies are compulsive and habitual. Whether it’s a small white lie or a more intentional attempt at dodging accountability, everyone tells a fib now and then. But pathological lying is a near-consistent habit, says Drew Curtis, associate professor of psychology at The University of Texas at Tyler and author of Big Liars: What Psychological Science Tells Us About Lying and How You Can Avoid Being Duped.. “We’re looking at about 9 to 10 lies a day, on average,” says Dr. Curtis, who also leads research on this topic through the Clinical Science and Deception Lab. Essentially, it’s less of a deliberate choice and more of a default, reflexive response.. 2. They lie frequently, across situations and topics. No one becomes a pathological liar in a single argument or one-off incident—despite what Demi Engemann might suggest about Affleck on the latest season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. As Dr Curtis explains, this type of lying is a broader, chronic pattern spanning nearly every relationship, situation and topic. That means they don’t just bend the truth with a particular frenemy or embellish their credentials to impress coworkers—a pathological liar will compulsively fib around family, colleagues, at social events and in casual interactions with strangers alike.. 3. They don’t have a clear motive. With a term like pathological, it’s easy to assume the person must be lying for attention, power or individual gain. But “unlike strategic lies that serve to avoid punishment or get an advantage, pathological ones provide no obvious benefit,” Dr Ni explains.. In fact, Dr Curtis’s research shows that pathological liars are often unaware that they’re lying. So why do people do it? “To feel worthy, accepted or

Alia Bhatt proves less is more for summer celebrations in a pistachio sari

For a recent event in Chennai, Alia Bhatt wore a pastel pistachio sari by Jadon, styled by Priyanka Kapadia Badani. Crafted in sheer organza, the sari has the lightness that makes it an easy fit for warm-weather occasion dressing. Across its gossamer canvas, oversized floral appliqué motifs bloom in tonal harmony, with delicate embellishment worked into each bloom. She paired it with a sleeveless blouse in the same palette.. Bhatt’s choice of accessories followed the same philosophy of lightness. She wore a pearl choker with an uncut diamond pendant from Jewels By Moksh, along with matching stud earrings that carried on the pendant’s design. Sun-kissed and softly sculpted, Riviera Lynn kept the makeup in sync with the softer aesthetic of the look. She went with highlighter, gentle contouring, a wash of blush and coppery eyeshadow and mascara.. Where occasion wear often equates to maximalism, the actor’s appearance stands out for its minimalism. Between the organza, the appliqué work and the pared-back styling, it makes a strong case for summer celebration dressing, especially for destination settings. With the right styling and makeup, it can go from a beach ceremony to a glam cocktail.. “I wanted to bring the glam”: Alia Bhatt channels Marilyn Monroe at her first BAFTAs. From Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Alia Bhatt, this week’s standout looks leaned into high-shine. From Ananya Panday to Alia Bhatt and more, here’s the only wedding guest style inspiration you need

Wedge mules are the unexpected shoes to know this summer

Last summer, Dakota Johnson, the patron saint of street-style trends, stepped out in a pair of Khaite’s sleek Colt wedges in black glazed leather. She styled hers with grey bootcut jeans and a long leather jacket (a bit much for New York in July, admittedly) – a little clue, perhaps, of what was to come. Now, ’90s-style wedge mules are all over the place, from the street-style circuit to the catwalk to the queue outside Toad bakery on a Saturday morning, styled with oval shades.. Don’t just take my word for it. See: the strappy brown wedges in Diesel’s pre-fall 2026 collection, or the many bright, summery wedge mules in Balmain’s 2026 Resort collection, or – my favourite – the varnished, tortoise shell-like wedge mules in Ferragamo’s Resort 2026 collection. Elsewhere, everyone from the likes of Rihanna to Alex Consani has been pictured in some iteration of the wedge mule.. Edward Berthelot/Getty Images. Raimonda Kulikauskiene/Getty Images. It makes sense that this specific shoe has taken off. With a renewed cultural obsession with all things ’90s and minimalist, they’re just the right amount of sleek and slightly ugly (in a good way) – the perfect accompaniment to a midi-skirt or capri pants (equally awkward ’90s garments that now look quite chic). And, if boho wedges were a contender for the unlikely It-shoe of the past two summers, it makes sense that tastes have evolved into something a little weirder and less whimsical for 2026..
