Trump Phone Reportedly Costs More, Looks Different, Isn’t Made in America

Trump Mobile executives last month showed off a handset they said was a near-production version of the T1 phone to The Verge. Among other appearance changes, the smartphone had a completely different camera array design than the one still shown on the T1 purchase page.. The Verge said it spoke via video call with two Trump Mobile executives, who held up the phone so it could be seen. The interview follows doubts about whether the phone will ever be released, after its second advertised launch date of the end of 2025 came and went without any status updates.. Trump Mobile has not responded to repeated requests for comment.. The Verge this week also uncovered documentation from the Federal Communications Commission authorizing what appears to be the T1 phone. The FCC documents show that a phone from Smart Gadgets Global — whose CEO is listed as Eric Thomas, a Trump Mobile executive — was certified by the FCC in January. The Smart Gadgets Global website is mostly empty, apart from some stock images of technology. The AI chatbot on the site could not provide any information on the T1 phone. We submitted a question to a human via the chatbot, and are waiting to hear back.. As of March 27, the phone’s web page still lists it as being released “later this year,” which is the same thing it said last year.. Trump Mobile launched in June 2025 with a $47.45-a-month mobile phone plan, and currently sells refurbished Apple and Samsung phones ranging from $369 to $629.. The Trump phone, initially announced to be made in the US, was supposed to launch in August 2025. But when it became obvious that domestic large-scale smartphone manufacturing would not be possible, Trump Mobile dropped the “made in the US” claim. Now, the site simply calls the phone “Proudly American” without specifying what that means for a device manufactured overseas.. The Verge reported in February that sellers were eyeing a March release window. However, despite March now being half over, there’s still no word on the release of the T1 phone.. The website claims it will have a 6.25-inch punch-hole AMOLED screen, a 50-megapixel main rear camera with two 2-megapixel lenses, a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, a 5,000-mAh battery, a fingerprint sensor, face unlock and 256GB of expandable storage.. According to the model that The Verge saw on a video call, however, the screen looks a little larger and has a waterfall display with curved edges, as well as a vertical camera array. That one will reportedly run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7-series processor, feature 512GB of storage and include a 50-megapixel front-facing camera. According to the report, the T1 logo will also disappear before launch, though the phone will keep the American flag imagery.. The site is still accepting $100 deposits on the phone, which it continues to advertise as being $499 total. However, the phone will now reportedly cost more. Those who have already put down the deposit are locked into the $499 total price, but eve

Samsung Earbuds App Treats Motion Sickness With Deep, Soothing Sound

Most people have experienced mild motion sickness — perhaps from staring at your phone in the back of an erratic Uber or riding a particularly loopy amusement park ride. It usually passes quickly, but severe cases can be challenging to manage. Samsung now has an app for that. The tech giant’s new Hearapy app for Android uses the headphones you already own to relieve motion sickness with sound.. Motion sickness is generally what you get when the signals from your eyes and inner ear don’t jibe with each other, resulting most commonly in dizziness or, in severe cases, nausea, sweats and vomiting. It’s most frequently experienced in cars, on boats and other moving vehicles, but can also be caused by tech, including phones. The disorienting cybersickness, for example, can be brought on by scrolling screens or playing video games or VR.. Frequent or severe motion sickness can be treated with over-the-counter medicine, pressure point therapy, acupuncture, candy or just staring at a fixed point for a while. However, Samsung’s app directly targets and soothes the inner ear by stimulating it with sound waves.. Samsung Hearapy is a simple app. Pop in your headphones, click the Start button and a low-frequency bass sine wave is played for around 60 seconds. According to Samsung, this minute of deep audio stimulation resets the inner ear’s balance system and can relieve motion sickness for up to two hours.. The Hearapy app is simple: Open it and tap start to hear the 100Hz tone for 60 seconds. Headphones are recommended. Samsung, Screenshot by Antuan Goodwin/CNET. Samsung recommends headphones for best results — naturally pointing to its own Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, though any pair will work — and won’t play the tone until headphones are connected. You can override this in the settings, if you’re willing to risk disappointment from your phone’s tiny speakers. The tone duration can also be adjusted between 40 and 120 seconds.. Samsung supports its motion sickness solution with scientific research. The developers reference a study from Japan’s Nagoya University that examined sound therapy as a way to improve balance in mice and humans. According to the researchers, people who listened to a 100Hz sine tone for one to two minutes experienced up to two hours of improved balance, lower stress levels and reduced motion sickness symptoms during a car ride.. I’ve never experienced severe motion sickness. In fact, I suspect I’m immune to it, which is a blessing given how often I write in moving vehicles. So I couldn’t fully test Samsung’s claims about the app’s effectiveness. Even so, I gave it a listen, and at the very least, it’s a relaxing tone. But if you or someone you know deals with frequent motion sickness, it’s worth trying. The Hearapy app is free and available on the Google Play Store.

Newsom Signs Executive Order Requiring AI Companies to Provide Safety, Privacy Guardrails

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday signed an executive order requiring AI companies that do business with the state to institute safety and privacy guidelines.. The order (PDF) is designed to ensure that companies contracting with the state adhere to rigorous standards and develop responsible policies to prevent misuse of their technology while protecting consumers’ safety and privacy, according to Newsom’s office.. “California leads in AI, and we’re going to use every tool we have to ensure companies protect people’s rights, not exploit them or put them in harm’s way,” Newsom said in a statement. “While others in Washington are designing policy and creating contracts in the shadow of misuse, we’re focused on doing this the right way.”. The executive order comes as the Trump administration maintains that the federal government should be responsible for regulating the AI industry — and that requiring AI companies to comply with 50 different sets of state laws would prevent the US from “winning” the global AI race.. The White House recently released a new policy framework for regulating generative AI that focuses on some of the biggest concerns people have about AI: job loss, copyright chaos for creators, rapidly expanding infrastructure such as data centers and the protection of vulnerable groups like children. But critics say it doesn’t go far enough to regulate the fast-growing AI industry.. Some states have passed laws making it a crime to create sexual images of people without their consent, while others have placed restrictions on insurance companies using AI to approve or deny health care claims. Companies, including Google, Meta, OpenAI and Andreessen Horowitz, have been calling for national AI standards rather than litigating across all 50 states.
