Hawaii doctor’s son tells jurors dad confessed cliffside attack on wife, vowed to jump before arrest

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!. A Hawaii jury heard testimony that a son watched his father appear on FaceTime with blood on his shirt and admit he had just tried to kill his wife before saying he planned to jump off a cliff ahead of police.. Prosecutors are relying heavily on that account from Emile Konig as they build their case against Gerhardt Konig, a doctor who is accused of attacking his wife, Arielle Konig, near the Pali Puka Trail on Oahu in March 2025.. Emile, who was living with the couple and his younger siblings in Kahului, Maui, said the call came shortly after the alleged attack.. “He would not be making it back to Maui and to take care of the younger kids and that Ari, my stepmom, had been cheating on him and that he tried to kill her,” Emile testified, recounting what his father told him, according to Hawaii News Now and courtroom testimony.. DOCTOR’S WIFE TESTIFIES HE BEAT HER WITH ROCK, TRIED TO FORCE HER TOWARD CLIFF EDGE DURING HIKE. Jurors heard the first call came at 10:42 a.m., when Konig allegedly told his son he was not coming home and needed him to step in for the family. He also claimed Arielle had been unfaithful and said he had just tried to kill her.. About an hour later, Emile testified, his father called again on FaceTime, where he appeared with blood on his shirt.. Emile told the court he saw blood on his father’s shirt.. During the call, Konig again spoke about the alleged affair and the attack, and then described what he planned to do next.. “During that call, the next plan that he said was to jump off the cliff,” Emile testified. “I told him not to.”. HAWAII DOCTOR’S EX-BOSS SAYS ANESTHESIOLOGISTS HAVE MEANS TO KILL AS WIFE TESTIFIES ABOUT SYRINGE ATTACK. Prosecutors say Konig ended the call with a stark warning: “I’m going to go before the police catch me.”. Emile also testified his father never claimed self-defense during either call, a key point as the defense has argued Arielle was the initial aggressor.. During cross-examination, defense attorney Thomas Otake pressed Emile on specifics of the FaceTime call.. Emile confirmed he saw blood on his father’s shirt and that Konig said it belonged to Arielle. He also testified that his father told him the blood came from her head and that Arielle had been cheating on him for “a couple months.”. JURORS SHOWN BODYCAM OF DOCTOR’S BLOODY WIFE, ROCK HE ALLEGEDLY USED TO BASH HER IN CLIFFSIDE ATTACK. Otake also asked whether everything had seemed normal earlier that morning.. “Yes,” Emile said.. Man with prior arrest caught trying to shove stranger into train tracks — twice in terrifying video

A man accused of trying to push a stranger into the path of an oncoming train in Seattle is now facing an attempted murder charge, after the moment was captured on surveillance video. The incident unfolded at the busy Northgate light rail station, where a man was on the platform waiting for a northbound train when, investigators say, the suspect, Elisio Melendez, suddenly stepped up behind him and tried to shove him onto the tracks as the train approached. Prosecutors say the attack appeared deliberate, with surveillance footage showing Melendez “carefully timed his assault,” waiting until the train entered the station before attempting to push the victim, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The victim managed to catch himself at the last second, avoiding a potentially deadly fall, but the encounter didn’t end there. Authorities say video shows the suspect trying to push the man a second time before running off.

“This story ends with great work by our Sound Transit deputies who took a dangerous person off the streets,” the King County Sheriff’s Office said, describing the images from the incident as “quite chilling.” Though Melendez initially fled, investigators say a combination of surveillance video and thorough detective work led them to him at a nearby mental health community facility where he lived. Investigators went to a residence on March 24, where an employee identified him and officers took him into custody, according to local media reports. Clothing matching what the suspect was wearing during the incident was recovered from his room, further tying him to the attack. He was arrested and booked into the King County Correctional Facility, where records show he is being held on $750,000 bail on an attempted second-degree murder charge and is awaiting trial. King County prosecutors told Fox News Digital the charge was formally filed March 26 and confirmed the case remains ongoing. A court-ordered competency evaluation is now underway to determine whether Melendez is able to understand the charges and stand trial, with an arraignment to be scheduled once that process is complete.

The case also highlights a troubling history. Prosecutors said Melendez was previously charged in a 2019 domestic violence assault case, but was ultimately found not competent to stand trial and not restorable after multiple court-ordered treatment periods—the maximum allowed under state law. That case was dismissed in February 2021, and he was ordered into civil commitment at Western State Hospital under state supervision, where he remained until January 2022.

Chicago mayor doubles down on illegal alien ‘assault’ comment after Sheridan Gorman’s death

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!. Chicago’s mayor in a Tuesday news conference doubled down on recent comments that sparked backlash in the wake of the killing of 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student Sheridan Gorman.. At a “No Kings” rally in the Windy City on Saturday, Mayor Brandon Johnson vowed to stop “assaults” on immigrants. The comments came on the same day that Gorman was buried, drawing fierce criticism from some. The suspect in her murder is Jose Medina-Medina, 25, an illegal immigrant from Colombia.. “We have [to] end the assaults against immigrants,” Johnson said at the rally. “We have to get active. First of all, we have to make sure that we’re participating in our democratic process. We’ve already seen election shift around this country, so things are happening. We have signed multiple executive orders to force ICE out of the city of Chicago.”. Asked by a reporter on Tuesday whether he would apologize to Gorman’s parents, Johnson ducked the question.. FATHER OF SLAIN 20-YEAR-OLD KILLED BY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT ISSUES STARK WARNING AFTER SHERIDAN GORMAN KILLING. “I will again acknowledge the tragedy of the loss of life here,” Johnson said. “You know, look, burying a child is something that no parent should have to do, especially as someone who is a parent. The tragedy that occurred is one that, quite frankly — it challenges us to do better to ensure that we are protecting people — and you know, as far as the call for no kings, what I said, and I still stand by this, that we do have to protect working people. We do have to ensure that the immigrant community is not being assaulted.”. “Violating people’s Constitutional rights does not make us safer,” the mayor continued.. He was asked the same question in a news conference last week, and also answered indirectly.. FACIAL RECOGNITION HELPED CRACK ALLEGED STUDENT MURDER BY ILLEGAL MIGRANT – NEW BILL COULD BAN IT: RET. COP. “Will you take this opportunity to apologize to Sheridan’s parents for the policies that you have promoted, that have directly caused her death? That suspect would not be in the city, would not be in the country, but for your policies. Will you take this opportunity to apologize?” a reporter asked.. “Once again, I believe that we’re all grieving the loss of Sheridan and other folks who have lost their lives because of senseless violence,” Johnson responded. “And let’s just be very clear, between the SAFE-T Act and the welcoming city ordinance, the welcoming city ordinance was passed 40 years ago by the first Black mayor in the history of Chicago, and the SAFE-T Act was passed under the governor at that time, who was a Republican.”. Medina-Medina is accused by prosecutors of hiding behind a lighthouse before running toward Gorman and her friends, firing his weapon indiscriminately. Plane lost engine power before crashing into Phoenix-area homes, NTSB says

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!. A small plane that crashed into two Phoenix homes last month, injuring three people, appeared to have lost engine power moments after takeoff, federal investigators said.. The National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report that the Piper PA-28-140 experienced rapidly declining engine performance shortly after departing from Deer Valley Airport on March 4, forcing the instructor to attempt an emergency return.. The aircraft, carrying a flight instructor and student pilot, had climbed to roughly 1,700 feet before turning back toward the airport. But the plane was unable to make it.. The engine’s RPM dropped to about 600 to 700 and began vibrating before briefly stabilizing, the report said. Despite the pilot’s efforts to restore power, the engine continued to deteriorate before it completely failed just 5 to 10 seconds before impact.. SMALL PLANE CRASHES INTO PHOENIX HOME MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF, INJURING 3. Investigators reviewed home surveillance footage from the neighborhood that shows the small plane flying low over houses before it entered a shallow right turn, dropping its right wing. Aerial footage of the aftermath showed wreckage scattered across the roof, including the plane’s right wing still lodged in the roof, while the fuselage sat crumpled in the backyard.. FLORIDA SMALL PLANE CRASH CAPTURED ON DRAMATIC HOME SECURITY VIDEO. The crash shocked residents, one of whom described the impact to FOX10 Phoenix as sounding like “a bomb went off.”. Luigi Mangione’s federal trial stays on track as judge rejects defense push for delay

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!. The judge overseeing accused Ivy League assassin Luigi Mangione’s federal case shrugged off his defense team’s push to have the trial delayed, saying she doesn’t want to be “held hostage” by the schedule of a state court judge handling another case against him.. U.S. Marshals escorted Mangione into the courtroom at 11:24 a.m. He wore a tan jail jumpsuit with his sleeves rolled up, leg shackles and no handcuffs.. The judge entered a minute later.. Karen Friedman Agnifilo, one of Mangione’s lead defense lawyers, asked for several months of extra time, saying Mangione’s legal team needed to prepare for the federal case after his state trial.. MANGIONE’S LAWYERS MAKE SECOND TRY TO TOSS MURDER WEAPON EVIDENCE IN NEW YORK STATE COURT. “I don’t think what we’re asking for is unreasonable,” she said.. FOLLOW THE FOX TRUE CRIME TEAM ON X. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dominic Gentile argued that the defense’s logistical concerns could be addressed by changing the jury questionnaire schedule, which was set for a capital case. Mangione no longer faces the potential death penalty.. He added that both cases are expected to rely on the same facts and witnesses.. SIGN UP TO GET TRUE CRIME NEWSLETTER. Judge Margaret Garnett said she was more concerned about the jury selection process rather than trial prep — telling the parties she doesn’t envision a particularly complex proceeding.. She said her role is to ensure Mangione gets a fair trial in her courtroom, and she said whatever happens in the state case is not her concern.. SEND US A TIP HERE. Mangione faces numerous charges at the state and federal level in connection with the December 2024 assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, a 50-year-old father of two from Minnesota who was in New York City for a work conference when a gunman snuck up behind him and opened fire.. The state trial, scheduled to take place before his federal trial, is expected to garner massive public attention and make jury selection more difficult, she explained.. LISTEN TO THE NEW ‘CRIME & JUSTICE WITH DONNA ROTUNNO’ PODCAST. “I’m a little troubled,” she said.. After a roughly 30-minute hearing, she proposed keeping close to the schedule put forth in February, with jury selection in the fall and opening statements on Oct. 26 or Nov. 2.. LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? FIND MORE ON THE TRUE CRIME HUB. The federal hearing came just under a month after a New York judge told Mangione’s defense to be ready for the state trial on June 8. Judge Gregory Carro had floated the idea of delaying it only if the federal trial was delayed first..
