Chelsea’s Fernandez dropped after ‘crossing a line’

ByBobbie Jackson. BBC Sport journalist. 3 April 2026. 1077 Comments. Enzo Fernandez will sit out Chelsea’s next two games after he “crossed a line” with comments he made about his future at the club, says manager Liam Rosenior.. After Chelsea’s exit from the Champions League last month, Fernandez told ESPN that he did not know whether he would remain at Stamford Bridge next season.. The 25-year-old Argentine joined the Blues for what was a British record transfer fee of £107m in January 2023 and has made 161 appearances.. Rosenior said the midfielder has been dropped for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the Premier League fixture against Manchester City on 12 April.. “It’s disappointing for Enzo to speak that way,” Rosenior said.. “I have got no bad words to say about him but a line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build. As a character, a person and a player, I have the utmost respect. He’s frustrated because he wants us to be successful.. “In terms of the decision, it’s not all about me, or the sporting directors. The ownership, the players, we are aligned in our decision.. “The door is not closed on Enzo. It’s a sanction. You have to protect the culture, and in terms of that, a line was crossed.”. Rosenior confirmed Fernandez will retain the vice-captaincy, adding: “I won’t be stripping him of anything because he doesn’t deserve that.. “We had a really calm conversation. I explained the decision and why. I know it doesn’t look like it right now, but Enzo and I have an unbelievable relationship.”. But the issue appears far from settled, with Fernandez’s agent Javier Pastore saying the Argentina international does not understand the decision.. “The punishment is completely unfair,” Pastore told the Athletic.. “Banning the player for two matches, which moreover are also absolutely crucial for Chelsea because qualification for the Champions League is at stake and he is one of the team’s most important players.. “He has proven himself this year to be a leader and a key player, the backbone of this Chelsea side. I think it’s far too harsh given Chelsea’s current situation, and there’s no real reason or justification for why he has been banned.. “Enzo didn’t understand the situation. When the coach told him, he accepted it because he’s a highly professional guy who’s always fully committed wherever he is and respects decisions, but we don’t understand the punishment because he doesn’t mention any club or say he wants to leave Chelsea, far from it.”. Officials stated that the deputy tried to catch up to the SUV, allegedly driven by Singh, and paced it at 100 mph. As the deputy turned on his emergency lights for a traffic stop, the SUV fled, traveling about five miles at speeds up to 124 mph before colliding with an eastbound vehicle on a curve, per the sheriff’s office. The deputy promptly alerted dispatch about the crash and checked for injuries, discovering that pregnant 17-year-old Ashlee Holmes, Singh’s passenger, had died after being ejected from the vehicle, according to local outlet WDTN. EXCLUSIVE: ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT RELEASED UNDER BIDEN ‘CATCH-AND-RELEASE’ ALLEGEDLY KILLS DRIVER IN POLICE CHASE. Singh was airlifted by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. The female driver of the eastbound vehicle, who was conscious and alert despite her injuries, was transported to Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana, via Union City, per the sheriff’s office. Officials noted the pursuit lasted under three minutes from initiation to crash. The reason Holmes was in Singh’s vehicle remains unknown. “This is yet another tragic reminder of why illegal aliens should not be driving cars on America’s roads,” DHS acting assistant secretary Lauren Bis wrote in a statement. This illegal immigrant’s reckless behavior has resulted in the death of a 17-year-old woman and her unborn child. Singh reportedly crossed into the country illegally via California’s southern border in February 2017 and was detained prior to a judge ordering his release on bond. Daughters’ relentless search shatters ‘overdose’ claim, leads to arrest in mom’s 1992 murder

NEW Now you can listen to Fox News articles! Over three decades after a Washington mother was discovered dead in her home, authorities have arrested a suspect in the long-dormant case. In November 1992, Janice Randle was found deceased on her bed in her Graham, Washington residence, with her infant daughter in a nearby crib. At that time, her husband, James Randle, informed authorities that she might have died from a drug overdose, pointing to her previous use of painkillers. The couple was separated and in the midst of a divorce. The case was originally handled as a death investigation and potential overdose. Autopsy findings later showed no drugs in Randle’s system, leading investigators to reclassify the case as a homicide. Even with this change, evidence remained scarce, and detectives could not build probable cause for an arrest. The case went unsolved for decades. “Realtor’s Cold Case Murder Solved After 133 Years, Police Say.” The investigation was reopened in recent years when family members provided new information, including reports of purported confessions by James Randle. Those leads offered investigators a new angle—and a fresh way ahead.
