Image caption: Hillcrest, in La Verne, is expanding and connecting their campus with the addition and renovation of three existing single-family homes. A walkway will connect the east and west campuses. The additions will enhance the everyday life of the community by providing direct pedestrian access to dining, wellness and residential areas. The La Verne City Council unanimously approved the zoning changes in March, marking the culmination 80 years of planning to geographically unite the 50-acre campus. Shirley Turner, Director Sales and Marketing of Hillcrest, said that this project was part of Hillcrest’s long-term plans and marked a milestone in the long-term vision for community living. The project brings together both sides of the campus and creates a stronger connection for residents. The community has over 20 acres of vacant land, which is well positioned for growth as older adults look for retirement housing options. The Gateway neighborhood will include seven single-family houses designed for residents looking for a low-maintenance life style with access to campus services and independent living. Each residence will have approximately 1,600 square foot, two-car garages and modern layouts including open-concept, single-level floor plans and kitchens. The Gateway homes are centrally located in the Hillcrest community and are close to the fitness center as well as our Meeting House. Turner said that if you are downsizing but still want to live in a vibrant, active community, this is a great place for you. The project builds upon the success of Hillcrest’s Hawthorne Neighborhood and reflects a growing demand for residential options that combine privacy with access dining and wellness programs. Residents will have access to Hillcrest’s amenities, wellness programs, continuum of care services, and more. Construction is expected be completed between autumn and winter 2027.
