The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report Thursday that said a jet engine blade from a Boeing 737 detached and slammed against the side of a passenger’s cabin. This caused a broken window, and a partial vacuuming out of the plane.
The flight from Thessaloniki, Greece to Memmingen in Germany on July 10, had only taken off 10 minutes before and forced an emergency landing.
Reuters reported that the head and shoulders were sucked from seat 11F of 61 year old Ljubisa Karaovic. This caused significant injuries to his wife. The flight attendant and she pulled him into the aircraft, according to her.
According to the report, seven and a half minute after taking off, pilots received a warning about high engine vibrations. The vibrations grew significantly two minutes after takeoff, and the pilots heard a “loud bang” when the autopilot was disengaged.

CFM-56 engines are widely used by the aviation industry. They were built in a joint venture with French Safran Aircraft Engines, and GE Aerospace.
NTSB reported that the shrapnel punctured the body beneath the wings, and also dented and gouged the tail. It also punctured the metal around the engine.
The NTSB reported that the remaining blade of the broken off piece showed signs of fatigue cracking. This is the result of repeated stresses greater than what would normally be expected based on the number of flights. The leading edges of eight other blades showed deformation.
In the engine, feathers and bird remains were found, but the date of the last time the aircraft hit birds was unknown. In the past year, four suspected bird strikes had been reported but there was no damage found.
A rule that was implemented following a similar accident had led to the last inspection of fan blades on the plane being less than three week prior. Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 blades snapped in 2018, shattering a glass window, and pulling a woman’s head and torso out of the aircraft. Later, she died from blunt force trauma.
NTSB to lead the investigation
The window blew off the Ryanair Boeing 737-8AS, a 18-year old aircraft flying in Greek airspace at 16,000 feet.
According to international regulations, the Hellenic Air and Rail Safety Investigation Authority requested that the NTSB lead the investigation. According to the NTSB, Greece will be participating as an “accredited member.”
According to the NTSB, the report cited fatigue cracking. It also stated that the injured passenger had been “partially trapped in a damaged window in the cabin”. Other passengers “managed to drag the injured passenger into the cabin.” This is contrary to what Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary claimed in an earnings call in July.
Some of the salacious reports claimed that a passenger had thrown his head halfway through the window. O’Leary stated that nobody was outside any windows. Initial indications would indicate that the damage appears to be caused by a foreign body on the engine during takeoff from Thessaloniki.
In a letter, Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy of the NTSB criticized him for making comments on an investigation that is still open.
Homendy wrote in his letter that “the NTSB currently investigates this accident. Therefore, accredited representatives or their technical advisors may not make any comment regarding the possible cause of the incident or convey potential investigative data.” “Mr. “Mr.
NTSB investigation typically takes between one and two years. The final report determines probable cause as well as any contributing factors.

The City Council will vote on a set of bills on Thursday that could bring back outdoor dining in New York City.
At the peak of the pandemic, roadside sheds and sidewalk cafes became commonplace as the city relaxed outdoor dining regulations to aid the struggling restaurant industry. According to the office of Council Speaker Julie Menin, at its height, 12,500 restaurants provided outdoor dining.
Some locals have complained of decrepit sheds and rodent infestations. They also complain about the lack of parking. The 2024 regulations led to an abrupt decline in the number of outdoor restaurants. The program is only available from April through December.
Andrew Rigie, Executive Director of the NYC Hospitality Alliance said that outdoor dining was a critical part of local restaurant operations. The new outdoor dining program was frustrating for small business owners and costly.
This package is a correction to the previous regulations that were implemented by the former Mayor Eric Adams who considered the deteriorated outdoor sheds a problem of sanitation.
New rules limit outdoor dining to April-December, add fees and standardize the design of street sheds.
A bill sponsored by Councilmember Lincoln Restler of Brooklyn would allow outdoor dining to be enjoyed all year round. One proposal allows restaurants to close their sidewalk cafes in the winter.
Some bills allow restaurants to pay in quarters. This would reduce the upfront cost and create penalties against those who do not keep their outdoor areas free from trash, vermin, rats, or graffiti.
Rigie stated that his organization supported all four Council recommendations, calling them a “big step in the correct direction”.
The legislation is also hoped to expand outdoor dining outside the outer boroughs. Open Plans, a nonprofit organization that conducted a recent study on curbside dining in the United States, found 94% of them are located between Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Sara Lind, Open Plans’ Co-Executive director, said that the cost to set up [sheds], break them down and store materials is too high for many restaurants. We believe that curbside dining all year round will really unlock the potential and bring it back to many neighborhoods.
Menin said to business leaders that earlier in the year, she would fix the outdoor dining program.
Zohran Mahdani, the mayor of Tehran has stated that he is in favor of a program for outdoor dining all year round. He also formed a commission that proposed streamlining of the application process.
Mamdani’s spokesperson Dora Pekec stated that “our administration is happy to work with the City Council to make outdoor dining more convenient for more restaurants, and to ensure our streets are used by all New Yorkers and not only vehicles.”
At 10 am, the committee for transportation and infrastructure will meet to vote on these bills. The bills would be presented to the full Council for approval later on Thursday afternoon.

Revenue is the first part of this puzzle.
Archer needs a lot of revenue to grow to 50 percent by 2029. This would place its market capital in the range of $8 to $9.6 Billion after taking dilution into consideration (we will get there). The company’s revenue was about $5 million last quarter, and $1.6 million the previous quarter. Wall Street expects a huge revenue increase from this point.
This chart implies that the CAGR for the two next fiscal years will be 483%. It may seem high but remember that Archer started from nothing.
It is in agreement with — or, rather, does not disagree — with a different set of predictions made by Barron’s back in May. According to the article, analysts expect Archer’s revenue will reach $1.6 Billion by 2029. They also predict positive cash flow. The growth between $511 million and $1.6billion in 2029 is approximately 213%.
Let’s reverse engineer.
Imagine that Archer’s stock is worth between 5 to 6 times the company’s sales by 2029. Archer’s market capitalization would rise from its current $5 billion valuation to $8-9.6 billion if it had $1.6 billion of revenue. This would mean that Archer’s market value would increase between 50 and 85 percent over the next 3 years.
You might ask, but didn’t you just read that the growth of Archer would mean a return between 20% and 50%? Stock dilution is the answer.
Archer has approximately 770,000,000 Class A outstanding shares. This number will almost certainly increase, particularly if recent Boeing acquisitions are completed. Let’s just assume that Archer will have about 1 billion outstanding shares by 2029. Assuming that this assumption is correct, an $8-$9.6 billion market capitalization would translate to a price per share of $8 to $9.60 or about 20% to 50% higher than today’s value.

A King County Judge ordered that Kalshi must cease most of its operations in Washington before the middle next week. The judge found that Kalshi is operating a gambling business that violates state law.
In March, Attorney General Nick Brown sued Kalshi, accusing it of breaking Washington’s anti-gambling law. He used the advertising for the company, which boasted about allowing people to bet “on everything”.
In his ruling on Thursday, King County Superior Court judge John McHale stated that “Kalshi is an online gambling platform.” He also noted that it was likely the company violated multiple state laws.
McHale had ruled previously that the company probably violates Washington laws, but had yet to specify when or how long it should cease its operations.
In March after Brown’s lawsuit, Kalshi spokeswoman Elisabeth Diana stated that “other courts have recognized Kalshi as a nationwide, regulated exchange for actual events and is under exclusive federal jurisdiction.” It’s completely different than what sportsbooks or casinos regulated by state law offer to their customers. “We are confident of our legal arguments.”
Kalshi says that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is responsible for overseeing it. Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, the CFTC has taken a favorable stance towards the company, and Polymarket its biggest competitor. The CFTC is suing nine states for their attempts to regulate these companies.
Last spring, CFTC Chairman Mike Selig warned states that they would be seen in court if they tried to regulate companies.
Prediction markets are a growing phenomenon that will benefit the Trump family. Donald Trump Jr. serves as a strategist for both Kalshi, Inc. and Polymarket. His venture capital fund invested in Polymarket prior to its planned U.S. launch.
Kalshi didn’t immediately reply to an inquiry for comment on Thursday.
McHale announced on Thursday that the company would no longer accept bets in Washington, Washington, DC, Washington, D.C., or Washington, D.C., related to anything related sports, election, politics, entertainment and culture, technology, science, tech, or any other subject. McHale stated that the company may accept bets and contracts in Washington on topics such as economics, finance climate, commodities, or elections.
McHale instructed Kalshi to install geofencing to its website to prevent IP addresses from Washington placing bets on or purchasing contracts. The company was ordered to implement geofencing by August 19 and more advanced geofencing by September 2 otherwise they would be fined $120,000 per day until the work is completed. The company was also told to cease all marketing and advertising in Washington.
Brown stated in a press release that Kalshi made a fortune by promoting bets on events such as sports, election results, natural disasters and the Iran War. As this case progresses, we will enforce Washington laws and hold Kalshi responsible for misleading consumers.
McHale stated that the company should continue to allow Washington residents to close their accounts or withdraw money.

Investigators in the United States said that shattered engine parts caused a broken window to break on a Ryanair flight shortly after it took off in Greece. The man’s face was then sucked down into the hole of the fuselage, before fellow passengers pulled the passenger to safety.
In its report, the National Transportation Safety Board stated that the parts which flew from the engine when a blade of a fan broke the glass and caused damage to the fuselage at several places.
The accident occurred shortly after Thessaloniki, a northern Greek city in the north of Greece took off on 10 July. According to the NTSB, it discovered bird remains in the engine. This suggests that the plane could have hit birds when it took off.
A 61-year old man was almost sucked from the Boeing 737. He suffered friction burns and injuries to his neck, shoulders and back before a fellow passenger was able to pull him inside.
The man who was rescued by panicked passengers after his window had broken
Flight attendants reported to investigators hearing and feeling a loud, continuous vibration in the cabin and seeing smoke or fog before oxygen masks were dropped.
A flight attendant noticed that some passengers were standing and asking for assistance because the passenger in row 11, window seat, was partly lodged into a broken window. Other passengers were able to get him into the cabin.
A passenger, who was a physician at the time, attended to the injured passenger in row 12. Flight attendants gave other passengers a metal box to use to cover the window.
Radio Thessaloniki shared a series of videos taken from the inside of the aircraft that showed people wearing masks when the cabin pressure dropped. One video appeared to show a blown out window with a nearby man wearing an oxygen mask. Third video was filmed, it appears, after the plane landed. It showed emergency workers working on the aisle.
In May, the engine fan blades underwent an inspection.
In a press release last month, Ryanair stated that “a passenger window came loose in flight and the plane returned to Thessaloniki soon after taking off.”
In this case, the NTSB and Greece participated in an investigation that was conducted by Greece’s Hellenic Air and Rail Safety Investigation Authority.
Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair, was reprimanded by the NTSB after telling investors that last month the investigation focused only on damage caused by foreign objects and did not consider the age or history of maintenance. According to the NTSB, investigators had not ruled out anything and O’Leary was not authorized to speak about it.
The maintenance records indicate that in November 2025 and May 2026, the blades of the engine on the right that failed were subjected to ultrasonic checks without damage. The NTSB stated that the crews had reported four bird strikes on the same engine in the last year. After two of these suspected bird strikes, the NTSB found remains from birds.
The Associated Press emailed Ryanair, Boeing, and CFM International (the engine maker) to ask for their comments on the NTSB findings.
At least two incidents have occurred where CFM engine parts failed, allowing the cabin to be breached. A woman died in 2018 after being partially pulled out of a cracked window on a Southwest Airlines Flight. In 2016, another Southwest Jet suffered an engine failure caused by a blade.
Minutes after take-off, damage occurs
Flightradar24, a flight tracking site, reports that the narrow-body aircraft with 189 seats was first delivered to Ryanair by 2008.
Flightradar24 reported that flight records showed the plane climbed to 15,000 feet (4570 meters) six minutes after takeoff, then descended immediately to 6,000 feet (1830 meters), “to burn off fuel for thirty minutes,” before returning to Thessaloniki an hour later.
Malta Air operated the flight, which is a subsidary of Ryanair, Europe’s biggest budget airline.
The passengers were able to return safely to the terminal after landing. The airline stated that one passenger received medical attention on the ground at Thessaloniki.
