Oscar Isaac was asked about “The Hunt for Ben Solo” while promoting the second season of “Beef.” Adam Driver and Steven Soderbergh, his “Star Wars’ co-stars, spearheaded this passion project. Driver’s character seemed to die at the end of “The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. Disney executives shut down the project, even though Lucasfilm approved the pitch. They couldn’t figure out how Ben Solo would come back to life.

Adam Driver told Associated Press in October 2025 that he had “always been interested” in making another “Star Wars”. After discussing his idea and Scott Z. Burns’ script with Kathleen Kennedy, Driver and Soderbergh began working on the script.
Kennedy, Lucasfilm Vice President Cary Beck and Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni all seemed to be pleased with the script. The “Marriage Story’ actor said it was “one of coolest (expletives) scripts that I had ever worked on.”
“We presented the story to Lucasfilm. They loved the concept. Driver said, “They understood our angle and the reason we were doing it.” “We presented it to Bob Iger, Alan Bergman and they refused. They couldn’t believe Ben Solo was still alive. “And that was it.”

Isaac appeared on Josh Horowitz’s “Happy, Sad, Confused”, a podcast, to promote season 2 of “Beef”. Isaac was asked about his role as a Netflix star, but he also answered a few questions regarding his “Star Wars’ character, Resistance pilot and leader Poe Dameron.
Isaac hinted at the possibility of reprising his role, but he admitted that he had no idea about “The Hunt For Ben Solo”, when it was mentioned in conversation.
“No, I didn’t read it,” Isaac said. “I had nothing in it.”
Oscar Isaac Addresses the ‘Somehow Palpatine Returned Line’
Many fans thought that it was strange that Bob Iger turned down “The Hunt For Ben Solo”, when many characters had been brought back to life before. Darth Maul was slashed in half in “The Phantom Menace” and reappeared on several animated shows. He then got his own animated show, “Maul- Shadow Lord,” that has received rave reviews.
Even in the 2019 film “The Rise of Skywalker”, Emperor Palpatine is brought back to life in order to be the film’s main antagonist. Isaac himself delivered the line, “Somehow Palpatine returned”, which was widely mocked on social media years after the film’s release.
Isaac said that the line was added to the film only during reshoots. “Those were reshoots. We had to reshoot. He said, “Those are surgical strikes, where you come in and they scramble, trying to get things going.” “I think that was an addition at the end,” he said. He also admitted that he didn’t know the line would become a meme.

The sequel trilogy began with “The Force Awakens,” released in theaters ten years ago. Isaac said his “favorite moment” was “doing the first one” and that he recalled “so many excitements” on set, because “everything” was new.
He spoke about meeting Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and “becoming closer with” director J.J. Abrams. He also said that he was happy to “reunite” with Adam Driver as they had appeared together in “Inside Llewyn Davis”. Isaac remembered that it was a very exciting moment.
Rian Johnson was praised by Oscar Isaac for his positive attitude
The Last Jedi, released in 2017, was the most divisive sequel film. While some fans loved its bold new direction, other felt that the story strayed far enough from what Abrams set up in “The Force” Awakens.
Isaac responded to the backlash by admitting that he was raised “with fans and nerds,” and that he understood “how much ownership” people felt over their products. But he also admitted that he had “loved the experience” of filming with Rian Johnson, and meeting him.
“He’s trying to make it his very own. He’s so funny and laid back.” Isaac said, “I loved Benicio in it too, stuttering.” “I loved it. It was an amazing experience.”
Fans speculate that Isaac may appear in Ryan Gosling’s “Star Wars: Starfighter” which is set to hit theaters in 2027. The Mandalorian & Grogu, scheduled for release May 22, 2026, will be the first “Star Wars’ movie to hit theaters after “The Rise of Skywalker.” The Blast first published The Oscar Isaac Breaks His Silence on Adam Driver’s Scrapped “Star Wars” Movie
