Dwight Rust Jr., a Maryland man, was arrested Tuesday on charges related to the 2002 death Michelle Rust. Dwight Rust told police that Michelle Rust had left the house around 9:30 am on July 20, 2002, in order to buy supplies for their son’s 3-year-old birthday party. Investigators relying on new forensic evidence have admitted to a decades-old cold case slaying. Members of her family said she was “a dedicated mother and a daughter” and would not have disappeared by herself, leading investigators, police, to conclude that she was the victim of foul play.
