Reese Witherspoon makes her position on artificial intelligence very clear.

Witherspoon received a lot of criticism after she posted a video encouraging women embrace the AI revolution. The Oscar winner suggested women integrate these digital tools into daily routines. This stance quickly drew criticism from fans and peers in the industry.

The 50-year old star has now taken to Instagram Stories to clarify and respond to the heated responses. In a selfie she addressed rumors about her advocacy being part of a partnership. She stated that no one pays her to speak on this subject and that she simply acts out of curiosity.

“I want people to know that I understand their concerns.” She wrote in People Magazine that “they are valid”.

She said that, while she was fascinated by the use of AI in all sectors of business she did not want to see humans replaced by computers.

The actress also expressed her awareness of high energy and water requirements required to power these systems as well as looming questions regarding Artificial General Intelligence.

Witherspoon asked her followers to learn with her as she navigated this technological shift. She also respected those who preferred to stay out of the conversation.

Witherspoon’s commitment in learning about this new technology is similar to her video from April 16 where she stressed the importance of not missing the beginning of a technological change.

She explained to People Magazine that “the thing I’ve learnt about technology is that if you don’t get a bit of understanding at the very beginning, you just speed past you.”

Witherspoon drew attention to a worrying gap, noting women use AI tools at a 25% lower rate than men. She feels this statistic must change if women are to secure their own future. In September, she said that women should be involved in AI as it is the future for filmmaking.

Other industry veterans share Witherspoon’s proactive stance regarding technological education. They also speak out about the importance of adapting to changes. Sandra Bullock also echoed the sentiment, highlighting Hollywood’s growing anxiety regarding artificial intelligence.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker suggested, during a summit, that instead of resisting, creatives should work with these tools.

Bullock, who was accompanied by Warner Bros. CEO Pam Abdy and was shown user-generated AI inspired by her “Practical Magic” project, was shown the content.

The Blast reported that while she admitted she had not seen the material that used her likeness, it was clear that technology is already a fact and that the industry needs to embrace it.

She balanced her optimism with a warning that the industry should be extremely cautious, as some people will use this technology to do harm, rather than good.

Jenna Ortega shares her views on the technology

While Bullock advocates for ways to adapt, younger stars are raising alarms about the possible loss of artistic integrity. Jenna Ortega firmly opposed its absorption into entertainment.

During a press conference for the jury at the Marrakech Film Festival the actress reaffirmed her previous anti AI remarks, warning the industry that it is currently diving into unpredictable and dangerous waters.

The Blast reported on the deep concerns expressed by “Wednesday’s” star that humanity is pushing technology boundaries to a point where there is no turning back.

“It is very easy to be scared. I know that I am when I’m in times of deep uncertainty. It’s like we’ve unlocked a Pandora’s Box,” Ortega said, arguing that AI cannot reproduce human imperfections.

Matthew McConaughey Joins the Fight Against AI

Matthew McConaughey shares Ortega’s concern about the soul of storytelling. The actor took a recent step that was unprecedented to ensure that his unique persona would not be exploited by emerging technology.

McConaughey, in a legal move that was groundbreaking, officially obtained eight distinct trademarks by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These trademarks protect his voice, face, and even his unique speaking cadence.

According to The Blast this strategy turns his persona into intellectual property that is specifically designed to discourage the “misuse of AI simulations”.
