Secret Service ‘model worked’ during WHCA Dinner shooting but ‘luck’ played a role, experts say

NEWYou can listen to Fox News articles now! Cole Allen, 31, faces federal charges for attempting to kill the president of the United States and transporting a gun across state lines. He also faces charges for discharging a weapon during a violent crime after he allegedly ran past a Secret Service security checkpoint. Authorities have pointed out that Allen wrote a manifesto in which he stated his intention to target Trump and other members of the administration for political grievances. World leaders condemn ‘unacceptable’ violence after armed attack disrupts WH correspondents’ dinner. “I think the Secret Service model worked,” Bill Gage said, a former Secret Service agent and executive protection manager for SafeHaven Security Group. Gage said that there was a lot more luck involved in the fact that Allen wasn’t better-prepared or better-trained. The Secret Service’s critical security lapses are exposed in a new report on the Trump assassination attempt. Allen was then tackled and taken into custody. The chaos was miraculously avoided, and Trump was quickly rushed off the stage while thousands of attendees sought cover under their tables. While federal officials, including Trump, applauded Secret Service agents for their quick-thinking, there were questions about how an armed person was able get so close to a room with a large number of Cabinet members and celebrities. “Nobody was hurt, right?” This was not because of total professionalism. This was due to bad luck, the ineptness and redundancy of the attacker – he shouldn’t have been so close. Gage, however, suggests that the protocol of the agency worked as intended. Gage explained that the Secret Service’s concept was like a ring of security, where you have a outer perimeter, an interior perimeter and a mid-perimeter. “Each of them is like a concentric ring that overlaps. If one ring fails, then the other can pick up the slack. “TRUMP SAYS THAT HE WOULD RELEASE REPORTS OF ASSASSINATION ATTACKS AGAINST HIM : ‘COULD SUSPICIOUS.’ According to Gage Saturday’s outer boundary began with the agency magnetometers, where Allen rushed by authorities armed with shotguns and other weapons. Gage, of Fox News Digital, said that the attacker would race through the magnetometers by sheer speed and surprise. “He gets past that perimeter, but he’s not sort of free.” He will interact with other agents while he tries to get into the ballroom. Gage continued, “There would’ve been agents assigned to entry door.” “There would have been agents inside the event just inside the entrance.” “I would say that the Secret Service model worked because it proved the overlap. “AFTER THIRD ASSSASSINATION ATTACK, DEBATE GROWS WHETHER TRUMP’S ATTACK WARRANTS A NEW INVESTIGATIONAs the details surrounding the alleged attempt to assassinate Trump began to trickle in, new questions were raised about how Allen was allegedly still able to check into a hotel the night before, despite possessing multiple firearms. Gage explained that “the urban legend is that the Secret Service swoops into the hotel days before an event and shuts it down, kicks everyone out, and name checks each and every person there. That’s not the reality.” Gage said that agents must strike a delicate balance between maintaining strong security and allowing public venues, like the Washington Hilton, to continue to operate a business. Gage explained that there are deliveries, and other workers who come and go, such as the kitchen staff, employees, or maid staff. “There are other people in the hotel who have nothing to do the event.” WATCH: DOJ releases new video of alleged WHCA dinner shooter in halls, storming checkpoint WATCH: DOJ releases new video of alleged WHCA dinner shooter in halls, storming checkpointAdditionally, the common misconception that the Secret Service is permitted to close off public areas is simply not true, Gage said.FOLLOW US ON X”Is it theoretically possible that the Secret Service comes in and shuts down a thousand-person hotel or a thousand-room hotel the day before? Gage told Fox News Digital that theoretically, it is possible. “But logistically it’s not feasible.” It’s not financially possible. Financially, it’s not possible.” “They must shake hands, pose in photos and make speeches. They must be seen across the country. Gage said that the Secret Service would be taking more intrusive measures at public venues. “I can imagine the Secret Service, following Saturday, inflicting a lot of inconvenience on the hotel, the guests and the staff, and being very intrusive in the day-today operations of the hotels, to have a larger security footprint there.” Allen is still in custody and faces three federal counts stemming from an alleged assassination. Authorities indicate that he will be slapped additional counts. “The Secret Service is comprised of incredibly committed men and women who joined the agency to protect office of the president,” he said. “The Secret Service is made up by incredibly talented people who are dedicated and spend many hours on their feet away from their family – and now it’s even more stressful.” “Fox News Digital contacted the Secret Service.
