The initiative is designed to improve the clinical outcomes of patients with chronic illnesses, preventing them from escalating into serious illness, and reducing the risk for sudden cardiac events. iLive Connect is the heart of the ecosystem. It consists of a small wireless patch paired with a wristband which measures vital parameters in realtime, such as blood pressure and heart activity. As part the system, experienced doctors in a remote command center monitor data 24×7 and alert patients’ families if there are any abnormalities. Around 40 doctors attended the launch in Chennai on Sunday, including Dr Thillai Vasal, managing director of Venkateswara Hospitals. Dr MA Raja is a senior consultant and Director of Medical Oncology for MGM Healthcare. Dr Amit Kumar is a critical care physician. Dr Prashanth, MD of Prashanth Group of Hospitals. Dr Manoj SivaramaKrishnan senior interventional cardiologist at Kavery Hospital. Dr Rahul Chandola, founder of iLive Connect and a cardiovascular and thoracic specialist, announced that after Chennai, the platform would soon be launched in all southern states. According to him, India is suffering from a serious cardiovascular problem, with nearly 8 deaths per day due to heart diseases. Dr Chandola said that between 10,000 and 15,000 heart attacks are reported every day. Of these, 3,000 to 5,001 prove fatal. This occurs without any prior clinical warning. He said that traditional care based on symptoms is proving to be inadequate. This is especially true as cardiac conditions become more common among young and asymptomatic people. Clinical platforms, such as iLive Connect which allows real-time monitoring of physiological parameters, are being adopted by clinicians in response. According to Dr Chandola’s continuous monitoring of more than 1,000 patients, it has shown the ability to detect transient and subclinical abnormalities which may have been missed in conventional episodic evaluations. He said that real-time physiological data can help to detect cardiac instability earlier, which could lead to timely interventions and prevent acute events. Dr Viveka Kumar, co-founder and senior cardiologist of iLive Connect, said that these platforms extend clinical care outside of hospitals. They allow doctors to monitor their patients remotely and take data-driven decision even in ambulatory settings. One of the key features of this system is a multi-day health screening. This feature is particularly helpful for individuals who do not have symptoms. The platform is able to continuously assess patients over a period of five to seven day, while capturing physiological data and integrating multiple systemic and cardiac parameters. This allows for the identification of stress-induced or intermittent abnormalities. The platform provides a comprehensive profile in comparison to single-point tests, and it supports early risk stratification as well as preventive health care. CTSI was purchased by Varian Medical Systems from TPG Growth in 2019. Siemens Healthineers will acquire Varian in 2021 and bring AOI into its portfolio. According to sources, Siemens views AOI as a non core asset and has no plans to continue operating it in India. Both Siemens and HCG declined comment on this development. Siemens Healthineers focuses primarily on diagnostic imaging (including MRIs and CT scans), lab diagnostics, therapeutic images, and digital solutions. The company operates two production facilities in India – one for diagnostics in Vadodara and another for medical imaging in Bengaluru.
