‘This is insider trading by definition’: Trump offers $100,000 per month subscription to Wall Street
Gian Clementi is an economist at NYU Stern School of Business. He told Fortune: “I will be straight forward.” This is insider dealing by definition.
Trump, who owns approximately 41% of shares in the company, stands to benefit directly from this new revenue stream. Five subscribers would bring in about $5000 per month, which is $6,000,000 annually.
This figure is low by comparison to what Trump has achieved since his return to the White House. The 2025 disclosure revealed that his business generated over $2 billion of personal income in the last year, nearly quadrupling his total from 2024. Most of the money came directly out his office. His sons’ crypto-venture, World Liberty Financial (which he co-founded), earned him more than $500,000 in World Liberty Financial royalties and $635,000,000 from the $TRUMP coin.
Trump’s stablecoin legislation was signed just months after World Liberty introduced its own. This is a similar policy-to profit pipeline to the one Truth API uses with his posts on social media. Trump has collected millions of dollars from Trump-branded watches, sneakers and Bibles. Melania Trump also secured an alleged $28 million Jeff Bezos deal for a film. Truth API is a new tool in a long-established playbook.
Trump’s venture in media has had a difficult time building a successful social media business, despite the high valuation. Truth Social reported substantial operating losses after going public. Trump Media & Technology Group’s Q1 earnings report from 2026 shows that the company made a loss of $405,000,000 and only raised $900,000.
Clementi claims that the agreement allows Trump to profit from information he has because of his position.
He said, “He will monetize his role as president of the United States.” The president of the United States will earn more money, it’s an undisputable truth.
Some people disagree that the agreement meets the legal requirements for insider trade. Shannon Devine has disputed the characterization. She told Quartz that Truth API is “the fastest way for customers to ingest Truth Social publicly available data.” And that critics must have “invented a new theory about ‘insider’ trading based on public information.”
The classic insider trading laws hinge on the trading of secret material information, in violation of fiduciary duties. Truth Social posts, on purpose, are meant to be made public instantly, raising real doubts about whether they qualify as such based on their speed. Other legal experts, however, believe that the greatest risk is yet to come. Richard Painter (former White House ethics counsel) has said that this arrangement may violate federal law if Trump decides to post market-moving information–like tariffs, military actions, or policy decisions before they are made public–with Truth Social acting in a “tip” capacity on his behalf.
Renee Jones is a Boston College professor of law and a former SEC senior official. She told Fortune that “Material, non-public information belongs either to the U.S. Government or the American People, not Truth Social or the President Trump”.
It’s a pattern that has been well documented. Trump’s annual financial report of 927 pages shows that the president made over $1 billion in revenue from cryptocurrency and other ventures. This is part of an overall $2 billion gain for 2025. Truth API is a pioneering venture, monetizing real-time presidential speech rather than a brand or product.
Wall Street firms used to manually scrape the platform of social media for data before trading. Instead of racing against the clock to scrape Trump’s site, trading firms can now purchase an exclusive, low-latency, licensed data feed from Trump.
Kevin McGurn, interim CEO at TMTG said that the markets are already moving on Truth Social. Truth API is a licensed real-time, direct feed that delivers the most important Truths on the platform.
Trump Media & Technology Group didn’t immediately reply to a comment request.
Investors who get information fractions-of-asecond faster than their competitors have been rewarded by the financial markets for ages. Truth API uses this for presidential communications. Subscribers receive an automatic feed of “the most popular Truth accounts” that allows trading systems to instantly ingest posts. Trump’s Truth Social, which has 13 million followers is probably among those accounts that are available via Truth API.
The milliseconds that firms spend to gain an advantage in their race to execute transactions can often be more valuable than the subscription fee of six figures. In the release, it is also stated that the system was “designed for organizations most affected by the costs of a delayed information”, with manual data gathering being too slow to be used by “high-frequency trading firms and algorithmic traders.”
Truth Social’s Terms of Service lists the “systematically” gathering data on their site as a prohibited activity.
Washington is not the only place where insider trading has been condemned. Rep. Jamie Raskin (the ranking member of House Judiciary Committee) launched an investigation on the “scheme”. This was done by the House Judiciary Committee. In the letter of investigation addressed to McGurn by Raskin, Trump was accused of not “taking care” that the laws were enforced or to promote the public’s interest.
Raskin wrote that “President Trump, is once again using the presidential office to enrich himself in a spectacular manner, as well as his family and corporate cronies,” while also “destroying the integrity” of the financial markets.
In the letter, records were also requested from Truth Social. Truth Social is under the House Judiciary Committee’s jurisdiction. The letter includes demands for records on Wall Street firms who have signed up, as well as records about the “highest ranking Truth Social accounts”, which will be accessible through the Truth API.
Raskin’s office, which is the representative of and ranked member in Congress, declined to comment on any further requests.
Clementi is of the opinion that the spread of insider trading in the market will have a negative impact. The brazen subscription would discourage many traders to make trades.
He told Fortune that if people knew that certain market participants were privy to regular information because of their connections and that we weren’t, it would make them stop trading. They are worried that every time they trade the opposite side, someone will know more about the stock.
Also, he is concerned with the difficulties of regulating Insider Trading. Clementi says: “It is well-known that insider trade is among the most difficult crimes to prosecute.” This is why insider trade is rarely prosecuted. Clementi says that this does not mean, however, the market won’t correct itself. Professor Clementi says that it is in the best interests of the market to stop insider trading as soon as it occurs, so it can maintain its legitimacy and long-term sustainability.
He told Fortune that the market was going to collapse. It’s in their interest to ensure that insider traders do not make trades.

Massive egg recall in US south and south-west due to salmonella outbreak
The US Food and Drug Administration has raised the warning level for a massive egg recall that affects nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs. This is because officials are investigating a salmonella epidemic which has affected nearly 100 people.
On 12 August, the FDA reclassified a recall on nearly 1.6 million dozen cage-free white and brown eggs due to concerns that they could be contaminated by salmonella.
This recall has been classified as class I by the FDA, meaning that there’s a “reasonable probability” of serious health effects or even death if the product is used or exposed to.
As of 24th July, 98 individuals in 17 states were hospitalized as a result of the recall. Between 21 November 2025 to 30 June 2026, illnesses were reported.
No deaths were reported, although the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are aware of 26 cases hospitalized in connection with this outbreak.
According to an FDA report, Midwest Poultry Services discovered the problem through “proactive monitoring of environmental conditions and root-cause analysis”. The company stopped distributing eggs fresh from Texas farms as of the 22nd July.
The recalled eggs are still a problem because the best before and sell by dates continue through August 17.
Eggs were produced and distributed in Texas to various locations in the US South and Southwest, such as food retail outlets located in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
According to an initial recall notice, the affected eggs are available in Texas and Louisiana Kroger and Brookshire Grocery stores, as well as in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas Brookshire Grocery, Louisiana New Mexico, and Mississippi, as well as in “other smaller retailers.”
In the report, the specific products affected by the recall will be listed. Midwest Poultry Services had previously advised consumers to not eat the eggs that were recalled and to return them back to their place of purchase to receive a refund.
Reclassifying the recall comes at a time when the Trump Administration is dealing with a series of food-related health crises in the US.
In the US, a foodborne disease outbreak has reached a record high. The number of confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis associated with lettuce is now over 13,000! Taylor Farms has been forced to recall products in 26 states due to a salmonella outbreak linked with jalapenos.

Berkshire pads Delta, Alphabet stakes as Abel taps cash pile
Berkshire, which has been led by Abel since he succeeded Warren Buffett in the role of chief executive, added 17.5 millions Delta shares during Abel’s first full quarter. This increased the stake value to $5.37bn at the end June. Alphabet, the third largest holding of Berkshire, was worth $37.8billion at midyear after Abel’s addition of 48.1m shares.
Berkshire spent $4.5 billion repurchasing its stock during the quarter, while acquiring a total of $20 billion in other equity. The company announced these results last week. The company had $365 billion in cash by mid-year. This is down from the record amount of $397 billion it held at the end March.
Abel was able to oversee back-to-back transactions worth billions of dollars in the same period, after Buffett had a relatively quiet deal-making record. Buffett often complained about high market values.
The purchase of Taylor Morrison Home Corp. for $6.8 Billion was a value bet. He also gave $10 Billion to Alphabet as a contribution to its artificial intelligence investments, which is a brand new field to the conglomerate. Taylor Morrison’s transaction was finalized last month.
Berkshire makes a big bet on housing with the Taylor Morrison deal
Berkshire bought additional shares in homebuilder Lennar Corp. during the second quarter. This brings its total holdings to approximately $1.21 billion.
Bank of America Corp. shares now account for 6.8% of total holdings.
According to an independent filing on Friday, Gates Foundation also sold nearly 2.4 million Berkshire class B shares to reduce its stake in the company to $7.35bn at the end the third quarter. Buffett said last month that he did not plan on making any more donations to the charity as Bill Gates’ ties with late sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein have increased scrutiny.

Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro Reports Parks Division Was a ‘Big Surprise’ Last Quarter
Josh D’Amaro, Disney’s CEO since almost six months now, recently discussed his views on the Walt Disney Company.
Josh D’Amaro shares his thoughts about Disney
Josh D’Amaro replaced Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, almost six months back. D’Amaro spoke with CNBC about the Walt Disney Company’s success during D23, this past weekend.
I’m really happy about our earnings call. It’s amazing, you know. Great revenue growth. Earnings growth of 28%. It was a pleasant surprise for people to see the parks. D’Amaro added that the parks continue to generate returns for their company.
Then he continued, “We are delivering everything we promised we would deliver.” I think that there is clarity within the organization as to where we should go. There is a lot of team stability. “I feel pretty good, considering we’ve been here for almost six months.”
His immediate focus since becoming CEO was to maintain momentum in Disney’s key growth areas. This included its theme parks, and streaming divisions. Investors have focused on these areas, with Disney receiving mixed reviews from Wall Street in recent months.
D’Amaro stated yesterday that he was not satisfied with the current stock price. D’Amaro said yesterday that “our investors weren’t pleased with this, but I believe we are in a great position relative to the entertainment sector.”
D’Amaro has also confirmed that he is not interested in spinning off ESPN as a separate company.
Watch for D23 coverage throughout the weekend.

Anthropic revenue jumps to over $11.5 billion in Q2: report
Bloomberg News announced Friday that Anthropic grew its revenue by more than 14 times in the second-quarter compared to a year ago. This highlights the company’s rapid growth as it prepares to launch a potentially blockbuster initial stock offering.
Bloomberg News viewed documents that showed the AI company had reported a preliminary revenue for the latest quarter completed of over $11.5 billion. This is up from $787 millions in the previous quarter and $4.73 in the first three months of 2026.
Documents show that Anthropic had a positive operating profit adjusted in the second quarter. Bloomberg said that the figures were preliminary and may still be revised.
An Anthropic representative did not respond immediately to CNBC’s request for comments.
Anthropic is competing with OpenAI to win corporate clients, and its software has been gaining traction in the professional world.
Anthropic announced in May its revenue run rate had surpassed $47 billion. This is up from the estimated $10 billion revenue for 2025.
Sources told CNBC’s David Faber that Anthropic’s initial meetings with potential investors before its possible IPO were high-level, and did not include discussions of specific financials or a value. The sources claim that Anthropic’s CFO Krishna Rao leads the meetings.
An IPO this autumn could be the start of Anthropic becoming one of major AI private companies that taps public markets. This debut could unlock billions in new capital to help fund the escalating costs of compute infrastructure, build advanced hardware and build data centers.

Goldman says these stocks are top ideas in wake of their 2Q earnings
Goldman Sachs says there are many top-rated stocks that you can buy after earnings. Goldman Sachs says that companies such as Stubhub still have more growth potential. CNBC Pro has also screened and recommended Loar Holdings, MasTec and Toast as other Goldman Sachs buy-rated companies. Noah Poponak, an analyst at Loar Holdings, says that despite the recent results of this aerospace and defence component parts manufacturer, he will continue to support it. He said that the 2026 revenue guidance, EBITDA ranges and EPS were all above consensus. Goldman sees also “strong growth in the end markets, potential for new business wins, opportunity to expand margins, and high conversion of free cash towards acquisitions that are accretive.” Goldman has a prestigious list of conviction buys and the Loar stock is up 14 percent this year. Poponak stated that there was upside to the near-term estimate for this long term compounder. Will Nance and his team of Toast analysts were impressed with the recent earnings for this fintech restaurant. Investment bank says that investors’ concerns about investment expenditures are exaggerated. Goldman analysts stated that “we think TOST’s management did an excellent job of tempering this message by providing a positive commentary about the structurally higher profit margins for the company going forward …,”. Nance cited other positive factors, including improved visibility of customer acquisition costs as well as increased subscriptions to the AI-powered Toast IQ grow marketing platform. Goldman stated that “with shares pricing in growth-related investments, and the depressed margins of hardware in near term we feel the risk reward to be positive. We remain Buy rated.” Stocks are up by 16% in the last month. MasTec Neil Mehta, an analyst at Neil Mehta, wrote that after MasTec’s mixed quarter report it was best to buy the shares on the drop. Goldman believes MasTec is well-positioned to take advantage of the boom in data centers. He wrote: “As long-term investors, we believe MTZ will continue to win key projects in infrastructure and pipelines, which should support EBITDA growth and an annual compound growth rate of 17% between 2025 and 2030.” Bank of America lowered their price target from $508 to $409, but still said they believe in this stock. Investors should too. Mehta stated that “as MTZ continues to focus on growth in margins, we believe the addition of large long-term projects on the infrastructure and pipeline sides of business will be the main drivers for EBITDA margin growth.” This year, the stock has risen 37%. Quanta Services: “We see PWR, a major beneficiary of the theme of power demand. We estimate a EPS CAGR of 19.5% between 2026-2030 from the continued growth of both the Electric as well as Underground & Infrastructure business.” Loar Holdings: “The guidance for 2026 for revenue, EBITDA and EPS is all above consensus… we continue to see growth in the end markets, as well as new business wins, expansion of margins and high cash flow conversion. We also expect to make accretive purchases and have a positive outlook for near-term estimations.” We believe that the TOST Management did an excellent job of tempering the message by highlighting the structurally higher profit margins for the future. With the shares pricing in growth-related investments, and the depressed margins on hardware, the risks and rewards are positive, and we remain Buy Rated.” MasTec: “Looking at the longer term, we believe MTZ will continue to win key projects in infrastructure and pipelines, which we think is going to support EBITDA growth and an EPS CAGR of about 17% between 2025-2030…. We see large projects on the infrastructure and pipeline sides of MTZ as the main drivers for EBITDA expansion on the long run.” Stubhub: “We continue to view STUB positively, despite short-term discussions and stock-price reactions to framings of the guide. We look beyond the short-term and short-term price responses to this frame.” Our 12-month price target of $16 …” is reiterated.
