Tourism Western Australia rolls out new ‘Walking On A Dream’ campaign across global markets

I stand on a reddish ochre trail, overshadowed by the bizarre beehive-shaped domes of the Bungle Bungles beneath a golden sky. Tourism Western Australia (Tourism WA) has launched the second version of its global brand campaign, Walking On A Dream, portraying the state as a surreal destination characterized by expansive landscapes, rich culture, and innovative partnerships. This updated campaign expands on the initial 2022 rollout, arriving as Western Australia (WA) exceeds its pre-pandemic levels of international visitors. During the 12 months ending in October 2025, the state received slightly more than one million overseas visitors, surpassing the prior 2019 peak of 996,000 arrivals. Shot at landmark sites like Ningaloo Reef, Margaret River, Rottnest Island, Perth, and Mirima National Park in the Kimberley, the cinematic series showcases Western Australia’s striking natural diversity—from vibrant coral reefs and azure seas to timeless desert terrains. The promotion includes five 30-second clips highlighting destinations and a 60-second lead film tailored for global viewers. Central to the narrative is a refreshed take on *Walking On A Dream*, the smash hit by Empire of the Sun. The new arrangement was supervised by WA-raised frontman Luke Steele and performed in collaboration with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) and Aboriginal artist Billy-Jo Shoveller, a Karajarri man. Steele described the project as an emotional reinterpretation of the original track, capturing a sense of wonder and escape emblematic of Western Australia. Billy-Jo Shoveller noted that the partnership enabled him to incorporate his bond with Country into the campaign, highlighting the Kimberley’s essence for worldwide viewers. Featuring Nyikina man Nelson Baker and rising actor Angelica Blazeska—both graduates of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts—the films merge reality with dreamlike elements, honoring Western Australia as a place where culture, creativity, and nature converge. Tourism WA stated that the campaign was created in collaboration with Traditional Owners and Western Australia’s Aboriginal tourism industry, emphasizing a strong dedication to presenting culture, Country, and connections as core elements of the visitor journey. The initiative will launch across major international markets starting in February 2026, strengthening WA’s image as a long-haul destination centered on captivating landscapes, Indigenous heritage, and compelling narratives. Tourism WA, the state agency tasked with marketing Western Australia for holidays and events, affirmed its ongoing emphasis on global promotion, attracting major events, and fostering industry growth to maintain tourism’s upward trajectory.
