Security were shown to pull away the attacker as Van Gerwen chased him across the bar. Former world number one Van Gerwen said the attacker “clearly drank too much” and expressed regret over his reaction to the incident. Van Gerwen told the Dutch sports website Sportnieuws.nl that the man was clearly drunk and his anger seemed to come out of nowhere. “Just as the man was about to leave, he screamed. “That man knows he’s in the wrong, because he apologized via Instagram. Van Gerwen has decided not press charges against the individual responsible for the incident. He said about his reaction to the event: “Of Course, it’s Not Right for Me to Go After Him But That Was An Automatic Reaction Of Shock.” The incident happened before Van Gerwen returned to Premier League action on Thursday in Aberdeen. Luke Humphries defeated the Dutchman in their quarter-final match in Scotland by a score of 6-3. Van Gerwen is one of the greatest darts players in history. He was ranked number one in the world between 2014 and 2021. During this time, he won five Masters in a row. Van Gerwen, who has 48 majors to his credit, is ranked second on the PDC’s list of all-time players behind England’s Phil Taylor.
