OpenAI’s first hardware product, a mini keyboard for $230, was released this week. OpenAI released the ChatGPT Basketball along with its “command centre for agentic works”.
Pause. Play. Prompt. The product description explains that the campaign is a reminder to us all of how creativity does not only live on screens. The “Pause” was nowhere to be found. Play. Play.
What if tech companies don’t care about mental health?
You will pay $70 for the basketball, which is equivalent to 56,000,000 input tokens in GPT-5. The ball is made of 100% rubber, and it’s weather resistant. This makes the ball more suitable for outdoor use than leather balls that are used on professional courts. OpenAI envisions a future where sports can be played outside, even though the growth of generative AI is increasing tech companies’ emissions.
The ChatGPT Basketball is a difficult product to envision. Who’s this for?
If you venture outside of the tokenmaxxing, AI-led Silicon Valley one may be worried about being bullied for having a ChatGPT ball on the court. I would not be willing to pay $70 for me to bring this ChatGPT ball onto a Philadelphia community court. If it was free swag, I would have thought it ironic. My “#FACEBOOK”, airbrushed tote bag looks like it belongs at a bar mitzvah in the 2000s.
The AI industry, in defense of ChatGPT Basketball, is not exactly renowned for their product-market fit. The Humane Ai pin may rest in peace.
OpenAI also sells a line with inspiring reminders like “Good Research Takes Time” which, I’d argue, is perfect for startup founders meeting investors demanding faster growth. The $175 quarter zip that reads “research in cursive” has a special je ne se quoi. It says in the product description that it has a collar “that reminisces our days as academics,” but that could be a turn-off for those who claim to have never attended college. Can an object remember your academic days? Can I expect people to write emails using ChatGPT with grammatically correct sentences?
It’s okay to have some company gear. OpenAI may be looking for ceramic artists who can create functional tableware to celebrate the company’s history. I am willing to put my name in the running.

Does Tuchel alone deserve the blame for England’s loss?
The first World Cup Final since 1966 is only five minutes away plus the stoppage time. It couldn’t be closer.
Thomas Tuchel has been criticized for not completing the match after a 1-0 lead. It was his decision to switch to a five-man backline after 72 minutes that proved crucial. Argentina responded by adding more forwards. It was too late for England. The game flow was already set.

Before the change in mentality of England, Argentina created very little. Tuchel did not believe in his team to cross the finish line. Tuchel felt that his players could not land any more punches on Argentina despite Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and other stars on the field?
Tuchel claims he didn’t expect England to dig so deeply – and that some of the blame should fall on his team. What would have happened if England had stayed in a four-man back line? This is the question which will stay with you forever.
Tuchel’s wish to stay in his role following the signing of a contract in February with the FA suggests that the German has the support of all those in charge. Sky Sports News has been told that the FA is not looking at Tuchel’s situation and he will be the manager for Euro 2028 as he signed a contract extension of two years before the World Cup.
Tuchel’s big-game performances are closely watched by all of the country, especially with France coming to Wembley on Saturday for the third-place playoff and Spain visiting in September.

What became of Tuchel’s promise to make England braver?
They were afraid of dropping out than they had the passion and drive to win the tournament.
Tuchel said these words in a review of England’s loss to Spain at the European Championships final, under Gareth Southgate. Tuchel was harsh in his criticism of an England team who, according to him, played to not lose, rather than win.
This was also an assurance.
Tuchel’s England will be different. Tuchel’s England would be different. More aggressive. The ability to take advantage of the greatest moments, rather than just surviving. This vision was sometimes a reality.
After the halftime break, England’s first World Cup game saw England dominate Croatia. England’s performance was characterized by a fervent and purposeful play. Mexico could not answer the flurry of goals that England scored in just a few minutes.
The team showed flashes that it was capable of dominating elite opponents rather than simply reacting. It is difficult to understand why the events against Argentina were so disappointing.
England got the World Champions exactly where it wanted. Anthony Gordon had given Tuchel’s team a 1-0 lead and more importantly, England looked like they could still pose a serious threat. Argentina was chasing down the match. England was in a good position.
Tuchel, however, abandoned his back four in favor of a five-man back line. The move was intended to keep the team in front, but the result was the exact opposite.
This change in the game changed the psychological aspect of it. England retreat. Argentina accelerated. Pressure became unrelenting. The contradiction is too obvious to ignore.
In the most important moment of his tenure, the manager who had criticised England’s fear of defeat, appeared to be coaching exactly this emotion in his team.
Tuchel came to the United States promising that courage would prevail over caution. Tuchel wanted England to dominate games, make their opponents uncomfortable and embrace big occasions without fear.
England, knowing that a spot in the final was within reach, stopped asking any questions against Argentina and began protecting their position. The same old story.

Tuchel’s first squad was a mistake?
Thomas Tuchel selected a team for the World Cup that few would have picked. Two years after winning the European Championship, Cole Palmer, Harry Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold were not in his squad. He was brave in making his selections, referring to “specialists”, who could take England far.
This line was already struggling to hold up before Djed Rogers and Morgan Spence were thrown out against Argentina due to the lack of options.
Tuchel must have been aware that Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and other players were injured when they entered the World Cup. If so, the fact that he chose Noni Madueke to be his backup right winger, while leaving Adam Wharton at home, England’s other No 6 natural, raises more questions.
Tuchel claimed that “no one could have predicted it” when Reece James injured his hamstring against Ghana during the group stage. Many people outside the England team were surprised by this decision. Tino Livramento, who missed over 30 games for his club last year due to injury, was chosen as a back-up.
Tuchel’s choices got England to the semi-finals of the World Cup, but from the 16th round onwards they appeared drained in the heat. Why did the head coach, and his team, not allow themselves more flexibility to play in these conditions by selecting fit players or strong backups at key positions?

Is England’s World Cup success a result of Tuchel?
Since the co-hosts Mexico won the last-16, the mass has been chanting “It is coming home.” But did anyone think that it was coming home even before the ball had been kicked? When was the last World Cup England won on foreign soil? What about never?
England may have rescued a loss from Argentina’s grasp, but the South Americans were made to look pretty ordinary during a first-half hour in which neither team fired a single shot. This was the first World Cup where this had happened since records began.
It is also important to remember the quality of opposition England had. The team with Lionel Messi is the current world champions. They are also the top-ranked team in FIFA World Rankings. Now, they will play the European Champions Spain who rank second.
England is ranked 4th in the world and, despite their loss to Argentina, still has a chance to create history at this tournament. England’s bronze-medal match will be played on Saturday against France, the pre-tournament favorite of most.
Tuchel, if they win, will be the first man to lead an England side into third place at a World Cup. This would mark England’s highest-ever finish at a World Cup in foreign soil. It’s important to consider this before calling for Tuchel’s resignation.

Is England’s inability to maintain a stable defence the main reason they left?
Tuchel changed his defence constantly and never named a constant defense throughout the tournament. Jarell Quansah was in the squad at different times, as were John Stones and Nico O’Reilly.
Injury and suspension were factors in the decision, but defensive momentum was not present from the first game against Croatia.
England was always open to counter-attacking and Yoane Wissa’s missed opportunities against DR Congo, and Alexander Sorloth of Norway could have brought their tournament early.
Was anyone surprised that Argentina managed to get past this England defense when Enzo Martinez scored from a distance without being challenged and Lautaro Martinez headed in unchallenged inside the box?
Spain has shown that defensive strength is the key to success in any team, regardless of how many matchwinners they have.

What is wrong with English mentality?
Since 1966, the mentality of English people has been questioned. This has become even more evident in the past decade. Croatia in 2018 Italy by 2021 Spain by 2024. Argentina will be in 2026. England gets going when the going becomes tough.
Tuchel, however, insisted that it wasn’t a mentality issue throughout the entire tournament. After the victory over Norway, he made this abundantly clear. It’s a sentiment I share.
You could say that England’s best players in the past didn’t really know how to win big. Harry Kane had no trophies at Tottenham. Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Arsenal had always been shortchanged. The only players who consistently won the major trophies between 2018 and 2021, were Kyle Walker (and Phil Foden) during Manchester City dominance. This time, neither of them was here.
This argument, however, has changed a lot. Jude Bellingham won the Champions League for the largest club in the World. Kane is the proud owner of two Bundesliga titles. Arsenal’s contingent is now Premier League Champions. Morgan Rogers, Ezra Konsa and others have won European titles with Aston Villa.
They have the mindset to compete at the top levels of their club. These players are around others who share the same mindset. The pressure to represent England may be different but you can still have the same mentality from your club to the country. It shouldn’t, or at least not be.

Kane is not finished yet, but where has he gone?
It’s not the right time to discuss that. “It’s all about how I feel and taking things year-by-year.”
Harry Kane isn’t sure if it was his final World Cup. It’s not because he is a bad player, it’s because he hasn’t thought about the topic.
The England captain, who was 32 years old, had just finished one of the best seasons of his career with Bayern, scoring 51 goals in all competitions. He looked like he would carry that form over to the World Cup.
Harry Kane: It wasn’t enough to hold on against Argentina
Kane’s performance against DR Congo was particularly impressive, but after that, the Three Lions suffered a clear drop-off. He was also clearly affected by Mexico’s altitude and Miami heat.
It was at the most inconvenient time that he became anonymous, both against Norway and Argentina. Kane was not at his best in these games, as he served as the captain of the Three Lions and their main scoring outlet. This was a mistake.
Pre-tournament discussion centered on what England’s plan would be if Kane were injured or unable to score. Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and others helped to fill these shoes. But there’s still no clear answer. Or Thomas Tuchel is lucky he wasn’t forced to find a solution immediately because other parts of the team needed more attention.
It doesn’t change the fact that England wouldn’t have reached the semifinals without Kane. He is still the greatest striker that the Three Lions has ever had.
Kane will be 33 in less than two weeks. Given that Cristiano Ronaldo (41), Mohamed Salah (34) and Lionel Messi (49) all played in this World Cup, Kane has a good chance of being included in 2030. Kane will want to immortalize himself and has said: “The National Team is my pride, joy and what I most love to do.”
The current options are less than impressive, so there’s every possibility he will start. As it is, Kane is still a ways away from the end of his England career.

Who will replace Kane if he doesn’t?
Kane is approaching the age of 35 by the time England competes in their next major competition.
England could be in a tough spot if he starts to lose his power.
Ollie Watkins or Ivan Toney are their current backup options. These two players will both be 32 years old at Euro 2028, despite having played just 7 minutes of World Cup football.
There is not much choice elsewhere. In the run-up to World Cup, Liam Delap was the only other option. Dominic Solanke or Dominic Calvert Lewin could also be considered.
Kane scored 36 goals in the Bundesliga last year, which is half the amount of the Premier League.
Kane’s talent is unrivalled and he will be impossible to replace. The void that he will leave at the top end of the field when his England career ends is enormous.

Why was Mainoo not selected and does England have midfield problems?
England’s exit is a well-known one, and it’s due to a problem that’s been around for a long time: they don’t possess midfielders who are able to control a match of football.
Tuchel didn’t want to pick any of them.
Why did you bring Kobbie to the World Cup? He’s not played a minute.
Man Utd improved their form during the second half the Premier League campaign, thanks to the 21-year old. Only Spain’s Rodri and Man City’s Mainoo had better accuracy with passing in the opposing half during this period.
England would have benefited from a little more composure during the last 30 minutes of their match against Argentina when they lost possession and territories to hold on. Even with a man off, England was unable to keep the ball against Mexico and Norway.
Tuchel’s first choice for the tournament was Elliot Anderson, who he chose over Declan Rice. However, when a replacement in the middle of the field, to replace Mainoo, he turned to Reece James as well as Jordan Henderson, Jude Bellingham and Eberechi Eze.

DeChambeau proved that, in the aftermath of Nick Faldo’s pointed criticism, who claimed DeChambeau had “zero idea” about links golf. DeChambeau finished just one shot behind the leaders Sungjae im (-4)and Dan Brown (-4).
Scottie Schreffler, the top-ranked player, is again the favorite this week. He got off to an impressive start with four birdies on his first six golf holes. The hot start fell away, as he had zero birdies in his last 12 holes and only two bogeys. He’s still at -2.

DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and other LIV members are in this field. They are the two biggest names of the project that is on the verge of closing. LIV Golf’s closing in 2026 would depend on a win or a real run for the trophy for these two players.

The race to win the Claret Jug has begun. Scottie Schaffler, the top-ranked player in the world this week is again the favorite to win the Claret Jug. However, he has just had his worst performance for years. Scheffler’s first miss since 2022 was when he missed the Genesis Scottish Open cut last week. Rory McIlroy, as usual, isn’t too far behind, despite his recent top-10 performance in Scotland. The mood was a little off at Royal Birkdale earlier in the week, however, as both players began talking about their eventual demise. Weird.
The 15 LIV members competing this week include Jon Rahm, Bryson deChambeau and others. They are the two biggest names in a venture which is on its deathbed. It would be huge if they won, or if even just one of them made a serious run for the trophy on Sunday.
Scheffler will be playing with DeChambeau during the opening two rounds. McIlroy will be in the morning wave at 10:15 a.m. alongside Xander Schnaffele and Matt Fitzpatrick. ET.

The 2026 ESPY Awards were held last night. This year’s competitors dressed as fiercely as they did. This group of athletes wore their champion spirit in their outfits, leaving the gold medals at home.
The red carpet at New York’s Lincoln Center was awash with shimmer. Eileen Gu, a skier from Canada, embraced Guo Pei’s metallics in spring 2026 couture with floral sculptural motifs trailing down her collarbone. Simone Biles chose a gold dress with dramatic slits at the thighs, in a gown that was a mixture of liquid and solid. She wore it with husband Jonathan Owens who is an NFL player. Ilona Mahaer, a rugby fanatic and Olympic favourite, chose a white column dress with an embellished silver bandeau. She paired it with sparkling eye make-up. Lindsey Vonn of Team USA, who recently gave an update about her injury at the Winter Olympics in 2026, looked stunning wearing a one-sleeved sequin Gucci dress with her hair styled into glossy Hollywood waves. Ali Truwit, a USA swimming team hero and best friend of Gretchen Walsh had an adorable moment wearing matching sequins.
Couples also had their own style: the Owens-Biles pair, Ayesha Curry (in a corseted Christian Siriano) and Steph Curry. Karl-Anthony Towns of the Knicks, and Jordyn woods, in a drapey golden Oscar de la renta. Evan Bates in Christian Siriano and Madison Chock. Chloe Kim, Olympic gold-medal snowboarder, presented her boyfriend Myles Garrett with the award for Best Record-Breaking performance, which was given in recognition of his smashing NFL single-season record for sacks.
Some chose to go for sleek minimalism, with a hint of skin. Figure skater Alysa LIu donned a chocolate-brown Louis Vuitton gown, while racing driver Toni Breidinger went for a black body-hugging dress featuring deep cut-outs at the waist.
Marcello Hernandez hosted the event, which honored major athletes from the sports world, including motorsport, basketball, hockey, soccer, ice skating, gymnastics, and more. Liu was named Best Breakthrough Athlete and received a standing ovation. A’ja Wilson won the Best WNBA player award, her third in four years, except for Caitlin’s triumph of 2025. New York Knicks became first NBA team since Golden State Warriors in 2022 to receive the award for Best Team. The Knicks continued their dominance, winning most of the awards they were up for. Captain Jalen Brunson won Best Male Athlete and Best Championship Performance.
