Zayn Malik has put a halt to his comeback plans following a health scare. The singer had to cancel an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” where he was scheduled to promote his new “Konnakol” album, following a recent hospitalization.

Malik announced the news by posting a picture from his hospital bed, and updating fans about his condition. He said that he had “unexpectedly recovered” after a “long time,” but he did not reveal the reason for his hospitalization.
“I am heartbroken that I cannot see you all this coming week. I wouldn’t have been in the position I am in today without you guys, and I am so grateful for your understanding,” wrote the patient, thanking also the “incredible staff” at the hospital who cared for him.
A source told PEOPLE recently that “He is still working on his health issues.” He was supposed appear on Fallon, but isn’t able due to [the] doctors recommendations.”

According to TMZ Malik is stepping away from multiple commitments in order to focus on his health. He has also canceled fan meet-and greets related to the album launch. Sources claim that the decision was based on medical advice. He is reportedly seeking treatment with a leading cardiologist.
The setback comes just as Malik was preparing for his first solo arena tour in North America, which is set to begin this June. He had recently released “Konnakol”, and was preparing for a major promotion.
“I have always drawn inspiration from my heritage since I started making my music. This album is a further development of that understanding. Knowing more than ever who I am, where my origins are, and where I intend going,” he said previously of his new work.

In a recent Elle India interview, the singer reflected on the 10-year anniversary of the release of his debut solo project “Mind of Mine”, which was his first project since leaving One Direction. “It has been 10 years and I am still doing it and people are still hearing me,” he said. “I feel like I’m progressing.”
