It’s rare to have a moment of peace without thoughts racing through our minds or to sit idly with no tasks on our agenda. It’s this ‘disturbed’ silence that artist Saanthia Bulchandani tries to illustrate in her debut solo show in Mumbai. Through a series of monochrome ink drawings characterised with expressive strokes, Bulchandani tells stories of domestic life with people in wait, lost in thought or resting their physical selves. Viewers can almost sense the protagonist’s turmoil and the urgency of the moment through the evocative canvases.. On view at Akara Contemporary, 3C Amarchand Mansion, Madam Cama Road, Colaba Mumbai until 18th April 2026. Parasite by Lavanya Mani (2018-19). Copyright Lavanya Mani, 2019. Courtesy of Anant Art. The three words of the title of this show represent the different periods of time that we, as humans, experience throughout our lives. Artists sometimes produce their best thoughts while in a state of reverie, with their dreams taking shape through their creations. A pause at any moment invites us to slow down, to take in the stillness of the moment and enjoy a time of reflection, while a rupture breaks the bonds and continuity of art, relationships or even life. Curated by Gayatri Sinha, this group show illustrates these intersecting ideas of looking at art. With works by Aban Raza, Anju Dodiya, Gigi Scaria, Prajakta Potnis, Ranbir Kaleka, Shakuntala Kulkarni and Vasudha Thozhur among others, the exhibition explores these shifts in time and how they give rise to new ways of seeing the world.
