‘Hungry’ Watkins is man on mission – but will Tuchel take notice?

Image source, Getty Images. ByAdwaidh Rajan. BBC Sport journalist. 8 hours ago. 217 Comments. England might not play again until the summer but Thursday night would have brought a smile to Thomas Tuchel’s face.. The England manager watched his side labour for goals without captain and record goalscorer Harry Kane during last month’s friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.. It once again underlined Tuchel’s limited options when it comes to an alternative for 32-year-old Kane, with the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico a little more than two months away.. So he would have been very happy to find out Ollie Watkins had come up with two more goals for Aston Villa in their 3-1 win against Bologna in the Europa League quarter-final first leg in Italy.. The Villa forward was left out of the expanded 35-man England squad by Tuchel in March, having scored just one goal in his previous nine Premier League matches.. “Watkins is not with us but this is more down to the fact that I know what he can bring to the group – I know him very well,” Tuchel said during the squad announcement.. Despite the comments, the striker’s hopes of making it to the World Cup were left in doubt.. Watkins’ response to the setback has been nothing short of emphatic, with the 30-year-old adding to the goal he scored against West Ham in the Premier League just before the international break.. “It’s the back end of the season and I’m raring to go,” Watkins told TNT Sports after Villa moved one step closer to a place in a European semi-final.. “I could play another 90 minutes. I’m excited for the next few games. I’m hungry.”. After Ezri Konsa’s opener against the run of play in Bologna, Watkins eased Villa’s nerves with a second early in the second half as he pounced on a mistake from Torbjorn Heggem and finished through the legs of goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia.. After the Serie A side then scored a late goal through Jonathan Rowe in the 90th minute, Watkins restored Villa’s two-goal advantage in the 94th minute from a corner, before the return leg at Villa Park next Thursday (20:00 BST).. [embedded content]. ‘It’s good timing, isn’t it?’. Watkins has now scored four goals in his past five games across all competitions, after managing just one in his previous 12 appearances.. His three goals in three Europa League games is the same amount he scored in his previous 24 appearances in major European competitions.. Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin believes Watkins’ uptick in form could not have come at a better moment for both club and country.. “It’s good timing, isn’t it? Lots of things happening at the end of this season,” Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live.. “There is the possibility of the centre-forward position waiting with England at the World Cup, there’s a chance at securing Champions League football and there’s a possible European final, and here he is scoring two goals and looking very sharp and very lively indeed. The chances he got, he scored.. “Bologna went for it and

American couple’s Bahamas dinghy was ill-equipped for conditions night of wife’s disappearance: friend

HOPE TOWN, Bahamas — Following Brian Hooker’s arrest in connection with his wife Lynette’s disappearance, a friend of the couple described their small dinghy as underpowered and undersized for the conditions they encountered. Bahamian officials said Lynette Hooker, 53, and Brian Hooker, 58, departed Hope Town’s Abaco Inn around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. They boarded a smaller boat, a dinghy, to reach their yacht. Brian Hooker allegedly informed officials that Lynette dropped the ignition key into the water, causing the engine to shut off. He said the current swept Lynette away, so he rowed the dinghy to a marina in Marsh Harbour. Bahamian authorities arrested Brian Hooker on Wednesday evening, though he has not been charged with any crime.

A man acquainted with Brian and Lynette Hooker in the Bahamas told Fox News Digital that the weather that night was far from ideal—particularly given they were in an eight-foot dinghy, as officials have indicated. The man, an American who requested anonymity, said their dinghy was far too small for those conditions.

Their eight-foot hard-bottom dinghy with the electric motor is not suitable for winds beyond roughly 12 to 15 knots.

ARTEMIS II PILOT VICTOR GLOVER’S DAUGHTER STEALS THE SHOW WITH TRIBUTE. At the museum, the Apollo program’s story is once again in the spotlight, as focus returns to deep space over 50 years later. “There are so many… historic moments that have happened.” “It’s kind of cool to just be part of one of them,” said Abigail Lawrence, who is visiting from Utah. Six big questions for Fury’s fifth return from retirement

ByKal Sajad. BBC Sport boxing journalist in London. 55 minutes ago. He’s back, again. Tyson Fury returns to the ring on Saturday against Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.. The 37-year-old retired following a second consecutive points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024. With a history of retiring and coming back, few felt he was gone for good.. Still, another hiatus from the sport leaves questions about what the Gypsy King has left to give in boxing.. BBC Sport speaks to WBO heavyweight world champion Fabio Wardley, two-weight world champion Natasha Jonas, boxing analyst Steve Bunce and renowned trainer Joe Gallagher to explore the big questions.. Is Makhmudov a risky opponent?. Image source, Getty Images. Wardley: “A very well-picked opponent for a number of reasons. He looks and sounds the part – a strong, aggressive and powerful Russian – but stylistically he’s kind of perfect for Fury.”. Jonas: “Every fight at heavyweight is a tough fight. It only takes one shot. But you would expect someone of Tyson’s class and experience to be able to handle him.”. Bunce: “Makhmudov is a really risky opponent for Fury because Makhmudov has something that all heavyweights want. After that win over Dave Allen, he has momentum.”. Gallagher: “All heavyweight opponents are dangerous. Stylistically, though, I think he’s made for Fury. He comes in straight lines and Fury’s boxing brain and ability should be too much.”. Can Fury become a world champion again?. Wardley: “In the current state of the heavyweight division, I can’t see how Fury becomes a world champion again. He would have to fight either me or Usyk – and do I think he can beat either of us? No.. “If the titles get fractured – if Usyk is stripped of a belt for one reason or another – and Fury fights someone like Lawrence Okolie or Agit Kabayel for a vacant title, then yes, he can become champion.”. Jonas: “It will be difficult for anyone to regain a world championship at heavyweight if Usyk doesn’t vacate. It all depends on him.”. Bunce: “Anybody in the top 20 or so heavyweights could become a champion in the next 12 to 18 months. Fury can definitely become a champion again. If Usyk decides to give up one, two, or even all of his belts – then Fury would be a major contender.”. Gallagher: “I think he can. It all depends on the sanctioning bodies and what happens with vacant belts and stripping champions. He’s a two-time world champion – as is Anthony Joshua – and I’m sure the race is on between them to be a three-time champion.”. Croke Park could stage Fury v Joshua in September. 20 hours ago. Fury unlikely to be world champion again – Wardley. 1 day ago. Tyson Fury Unfiltered. Could Fury beat Usyk?. Image source, Getty Images. Wardley: “I don’t think he would beat Usyk right now. For me personally, there’s no appetite in it either. I think at the moment we want to see Usyk in with someone different.”. Jonas: “I would love to see the trilogy but I just don’t know it will happen. Do

Can stats help you find the Grand National winner?

Image source, Getty Images. ByCallum Matthews. BBC Sport senior journalist. 1 hour ago. The Grand National at Aintree is among the highlights of the British horse racing calendar.. But, with 34 runners, picking the winner can be something of a lottery.. Can the past winners guide you in the right direction? BBC Sport looks at the data to try to find the 2026 winner.. Grand National 2026. Saturday 11 April, 16:00 BST. Aintree. Listen on Sounds. Full race commentary and reaction on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds, with live text on all of Saturday’s races on the BBC Sport website and app. 5 Sports Extra will have commentary of Friday’s races between 14:00-16:15 BST.. Grand National pinstickers’ guide to runners. 15 hours ago. I Am Maximus heads Grand National field. 15 hours ago. Grand National: Runners, weights & jockeys for 2026 race. 15 hours ago. How do favourites fare and what price does the winner tend to be?. [embedded content]. Since 2000 there have been 25 renewals of the race, with no running in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.. The shortest-priced winner was Tiger Roll at 4-1 in 2019, when he became the first back-to-back victor since Red Rum in the 1970s.. The biggest price was Mon Mome in 2009 (100-1), with last year’s winner – Nick Rockett – going off at 33-1.. The average price of the winner this century has been just under 24-1, so with that – and the fact eight winners have been priced 33-1 or higher – don’t let bigger odds put you off.. That said, the average price does drop in the past 10 renewals, with the winner 11-1 or shorter on five occasions.. Six favourites (including joint favourites) have won the race this century, with three of those in the past six – including I Am Maximus in 2024.. The favourite or a joint-favourite has also finished in the top five on a further 12 occasions since 2000.. Is there an ideal weight to carry?. [embedded content]. There is no obvious trend, with winners of the past 25 races carrying between 10st 3lb and 11st 9lb.. If that continues, that would rule out the top six in the field – particularly I Am Maximus, who is attempting to become the first top weight to win since Red Rum carried 12 stone to victory in 1974.. Nine of the past 11 winners have carried between 10st 5lband 11st 8lb,which may help you to reduce the field a little.. Looking across the past 25 runnings, the average weight of the winner is between 10st 12lb and 10st 13lb. Those specific weights have a combined three winners, while 11st 6lb has been the most successful individual weight with three victories.. How old should my horse be?. [embedded content]. This is where the trends – certainly in recent years – become a bit easier to spot.. No horse aged 10 or above has won the race since 2014, while in 2022 Noble Yeats bucked another trend by becoming the first seven-year-old to win the race since Bogskar in 1940.. Based on that, the date suggests horses aged eight or nine are the ones to focus on.. Aside from Noble Yeats’
