‘You need to have arrogance’ – Rooney and Littler on being number one

2 hours ago. Wayne Rooney and Luke Littler both know what it is like to be thrust into the limelight at a young age.. A 16-year-old Rooney made the world sit up and take notice when he scored a stunning late winner for Everton against Arsenal in 2002.. At 18, he joined Manchester United in a £27m move, and by the time he was 21 he was a Premier League champion.. Darts world number one Littler was also 16 when he burst on to the scene by reaching the final of the 2024 World Championship.. He won both the Premier League and World Championship at 17 and successfully defended his world crown at 18.. At 19, he has 12 major titles to his name.. But when did Rooney and Littler realise that they could be among the best at such a young age?. “I’ve always had belief and this is where I think there’s loads of comparisons [between us]. I think you have to have a certain level of arrogance to be at your best,” Rooney told Littler in the latest episode of BBC Sport’s The Wayne Rooney Show.. “When I got in Everton’s first team, I’ve said it many times, I felt like I was the best player at 16.”. For Littler, his moment of realisation came when he was beating players more than double his age.. “I’ve been playing tournament-wise for many years, maybe my first proper tournament was at like nine, maybe 10,” he said. “And just like Wayne said, when you’ve showed a bit of arrogance, the more you do it, obviously people might not like it, but as long as you feel comfortable about doing it, that’s all that matters.. “When I started playing in pub leagues I started playing against adults. They weren’t happy losing to a 10 or 11-year-old.. “When I was beating them, I was going to the darts academy in St Annes as well, and I think the younger players in there were better than these old men. I was pretty much winning all the time.”. The spotlight on Littler only got brighter when he won BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2024, 22 years after Rooney did.. “The press can be mind boggling – you’re not used to it,” said Rooney.. “And [coming] from a similar area as I imagine to where Luke is from, you’re not used to that.. “You’re not used to media, you’re not used to talking in front of cameras and, and it can be intimidating, but one thing which is always remains is your safe place.. “Mine was on the football pitch and I would imagine where he’s comfortable is on the oche where he’s playing, that’s where no one can get to him. He’s safe – they can write what they want.”. Littler has started to draw more criticism over the past year or so, most recently following a mid-match spat with Gian van Veen during a quarter-final defeat on night nine of the Premier League in Manchester.. “When I first came on the scene, we were always looking at comments and everything, normally family, but now we just get used to it and just block it out,” he said.. “There’s always negativity with I think not only darts and football, every sport. Not everyone is going to like you and that’s

American couple’s Bahamas dinghy was ill-equipped for conditions night of wife’s disappearance: friend

HOPE TOWN, Bahamas — Following Brian Hooker’s arrest in connection with his wife Lynette’s disappearance, a friend of the couple described their small dinghy as underpowered and undersized for the conditions they encountered. Bahamian officials said Lynette Hooker, 53, and Brian Hooker, 58, departed Hope Town’s Abaco Inn around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. They boarded a smaller boat, a dinghy, to reach their yacht. Brian Hooker allegedly informed officials that Lynette dropped the ignition key into the water, causing the engine to shut off. He said the current swept Lynette away, so he rowed the dinghy to a marina in Marsh Harbour. Bahamian authorities arrested Brian Hooker on Wednesday evening, though he has not been charged with any crime.

A man acquainted with Brian and Lynette Hooker in the Bahamas told Fox News Digital that the weather that night was far from ideal—particularly given they were in an eight-foot dinghy, as officials have indicated. The man, an American who requested anonymity, said their dinghy was far too small for those conditions.

Their eight-foot hard-bottom dinghy with the electric motor is not suitable for winds beyond roughly 12 to 15 knots.

The Orion spacecraft, with four astronauts aboard, is set to return on Friday, aided by the U.S. Navy in recovering the capsule and crew from the Pacific Ocean. San Diego, with its strong Navy heritage, is at the heart of this operation. Multiple bases in the region are spearheading the recovery efforts, instilling pride and excitement in the community. Residents and visitors from nationwide are anticipated to assemble along the shoreline and at local museums to celebrate the crew’s return. ARTEMIS II ASTRONAUTS DISPLAY APOLLO 18 FLAG FROM ORBIT. “We’re back in the deep space game,” said Jim Kidrick, president and CEO of the San Diego Air and Space Museum. “You return to General Patton from World War II—you know, Americans love winners and won’t put up with losers.” This mission represents the latest milestone in space exploration, concluding—at least temporarily—off the Southern California coast. The Orion astronauts are heading home after orbiting the moon and venturing over 252,000 miles from Earth. “I think people have been invigorated by one word dominating space news today, and that’s the moon,” Kidrick remarked. ARTEMIS II PILOT VICTOR GLOVER’S DAUGHTER STEALS THE SHOW WITH TRIBUTE. At the museum, the Apollo program’s story is once again in the spotlight, as focus returns to deep space over 50 years later. “There are so many… historic moments that have happened.” “It’s kind of cool to just be part of one of them,” said Abigail Lawrence, who is visiting from Utah. Others visiting San Diego for the splashdown shared similar excitement. “You know what?”

Six big questions for Fury’s fifth return from retirement

ByKal Sajad. BBC Sport boxing journalist in London. 55 minutes ago. He’s back, again. Tyson Fury returns to the ring on Saturday against Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.. The 37-year-old retired following a second consecutive points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024. With a history of retiring and coming back, few felt he was gone for good.. Still, another hiatus from the sport leaves questions about what the Gypsy King has left to give in boxing.. BBC Sport speaks to WBO heavyweight world champion Fabio Wardley, two-weight world champion Natasha Jonas, boxing analyst Steve Bunce and renowned trainer Joe Gallagher to explore the big questions.. Is Makhmudov a risky opponent?. Image source, Getty Images. Wardley: “A very well-picked opponent for a number of reasons. He looks and sounds the part – a strong, aggressive and powerful Russian – but stylistically he’s kind of perfect for Fury.”. Jonas: “Every fight at heavyweight is a tough fight. It only takes one shot. But you would expect someone of Tyson’s class and experience to be able to handle him.”. Bunce: “Makhmudov is a really risky opponent for Fury because Makhmudov has something that all heavyweights want. After that win over Dave Allen, he has momentum.”. Gallagher: “All heavyweight opponents are dangerous. Stylistically, though, I think he’s made for Fury. He comes in straight lines and Fury’s boxing brain and ability should be too much.”. Can Fury become a world champion again?. Wardley: “In the current state of the heavyweight division, I can’t see how Fury becomes a world champion again. He would have to fight either me or Usyk – and do I think he can beat either of us? No.. “If the titles get fractured – if Usyk is stripped of a belt for one reason or another – and Fury fights someone like Lawrence Okolie or Agit Kabayel for a vacant title, then yes, he can become champion.”. Jonas: “It will be difficult for anyone to regain a world championship at heavyweight if Usyk doesn’t vacate. It all depends on him.”. Bunce: “Anybody in the top 20 or so heavyweights could become a champion in the next 12 to 18 months. Fury can definitely become a champion again. If Usyk decides to give up one, two, or even all of his belts – then Fury would be a major contender.”. Gallagher: “I think he can. It all depends on the sanctioning bodies and what happens with vacant belts and stripping champions. He’s a two-time world champion – as is Anthony Joshua – and I’m sure the race is on between them to be a three-time champion.”. Croke Park could stage Fury v Joshua in September. 20 hours ago. Fury unlikely to be world champion again – Wardley. 1 day ago. Tyson Fury Unfiltered. Could Fury beat Usyk?. Image source, Getty Images. Wardley: “I don’t think he would beat Usyk right now. For me personally, there’s no appetite in it either. I think at the moment we want to see Usyk in with someone different.”. Jonas: “I would love to see the trilogy but I just don’t know it will happen. Do
