Seven games to go – how will De Zerbi try to save Spurs?

By. Umir Irfan. Football tactics correspondent. 9 April 2026. 694 Comments. Clubs at risk of relegation tend to hire pragmatic coaches.. But that is not how you would describe new Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi.. The Italian is known for his attacking style of possession-based football, and has stayed true to his footballing ideas throughout his managerial career.. Three years after starting in management in Italy’s fourth division, De Zerbi was in charge of Serie A side Palermo, where he struggled to showcase his initial potential. When he was sacked, newly promoted Benevento hired him, but relegation followed.. Despite that, De Zerbi’s reputation was boosted – and he has enjoyed much success since.. The 46-year-old’s quality is clear but his system relies on smart and technical players more than most tactical plans.. So what tactics will De Zerbi implement at Spurs, and will this relegation-threatened group of players be able to execute them?. De Zerbi’s high-risk high-reward style on the ball. Looking at De Zerbi’s Brighton and Marseille sides, you soon notice how often they repeat certain patterns of play.. When building up, the idea is to draw opponents towards defenders on the ball before using quick passing routines to find free players facing forward. They are better positioned to play the ball up the pitch quickly into the attackers.. When it works, De Zerbi’s sides turn possession in their own half into shots near the opposition’s goal within a few seconds. It’s an electrifying watch – but the level of potential attacking reward comes with great risk.. De Zerbi’s approach requires defensive players to take responsibility with the ball – delaying actions until they have forced opponents to press them.. In a recent training clip,, external he was seen coaching his new players through concepts to make his tactics easier to implement. For central defenders under no pressure, the advice was to take many touches. De Zerbi’s centre-backs often provoke opponents by placing their studs on top of the ball – a sort of psychological trick that causes a striker to leave their shape and engage.. Two central midfielders are usually in close proximity to the central defenders. The midfielders receiving passes are often tightly marked, and De Zerbi’s advice for them this week was to take one or two touches.. The ball doesn’t stay with these players long to minimise the risk of losing the ball in dangerous areas. They instead act as a wall to bounce the ball off to nearby team-mates, who have lost their marker and can play forward under less pressure.. How De Zerbi’s style compares to his predecessors. De Zerbi echoed the sentiments of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta when he spoke to his team this week – highlighting the abundance of man-to-man defensive schemes in the Premier League.. His teams, like the rest of the league, will face tight pressure across the pitch and – through these choreographed passing routin

American couple’s Bahamas dinghy was ill-equipped for conditions night of wife’s disappearance: friend

HOPE TOWN, Bahamas — Following Brian Hooker’s arrest in connection with his wife Lynette’s disappearance, a friend of the couple described their small dinghy as underpowered and undersized for the conditions they encountered. Bahamian officials said Lynette Hooker, 53, and Brian Hooker, 58, departed Hope Town’s Abaco Inn around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. They boarded a smaller boat, a dinghy, to reach their yacht. Brian Hooker allegedly informed officials that Lynette dropped the ignition key into the water, causing the engine to shut off. He said the current swept Lynette away, so he rowed the dinghy to a marina in Marsh Harbour. Bahamian authorities arrested Brian Hooker on Wednesday evening, though he has not been charged with any crime.

A man acquainted with Brian and Lynette Hooker in the Bahamas told Fox News Digital that the weather that night was far from ideal—particularly given they were in an eight-foot dinghy, as officials have indicated. The man, an American who requested anonymity, said their dinghy was far too small for those conditions.

Their eight-foot hard-bottom dinghy with the electric motor is not suitable for winds beyond roughly 12 to 15 knots.

San Diego, with its strong Navy heritage, is at the heart of this operation. Multiple bases in the region are spearheading the recovery efforts, instilling pride and excitement in the community. Residents and visitors from nationwide are anticipated to assemble along the shoreline and at local museums to celebrate the crew’s return. The Orion astronauts are heading home after orbiting the moon and venturing over 252,000 miles from Earth. “I think people have been invigorated by one word dominating space news today, and that’s the moon,” Kidrick remarked. ARTEMIS II PILOT VICTOR GLOVER’S DAUGHTER STEALS THE SHOW WITH TRIBUTE. At the museum, the Apollo program’s story is once again in the spotlight, as focus returns to deep space over 50 years later. “There are so many… historic moments that have happened.” “It’s kind of cool to just be part of one of them,” said Abigail Lawrence, who is visiting from Utah. Six big questions for Fury’s fifth return from retirement

ByKal Sajad. BBC Sport boxing journalist in London. 55 minutes ago. He’s back, again. Tyson Fury returns to the ring on Saturday against Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.. The 37-year-old retired following a second consecutive points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024. With a history of retiring and coming back, few felt he was gone for good.. Still, another hiatus from the sport leaves questions about what the Gypsy King has left to give in boxing.. BBC Sport speaks to WBO heavyweight world champion Fabio Wardley, two-weight world champion Natasha Jonas, boxing analyst Steve Bunce and renowned trainer Joe Gallagher to explore the big questions.. Is Makhmudov a risky opponent?. Image source, Getty Images. Wardley: “A very well-picked opponent for a number of reasons. He looks and sounds the part – a strong, aggressive and powerful Russian – but stylistically he’s kind of perfect for Fury.”. Jonas: “Every fight at heavyweight is a tough fight. It only takes one shot. But you would expect someone of Tyson’s class and experience to be able to handle him.”. Bunce: “Makhmudov is a really risky opponent for Fury because Makhmudov has something that all heavyweights want. After that win over Dave Allen, he has momentum.”. Gallagher: “All heavyweight opponents are dangerous. Stylistically, though, I think he’s made for Fury. He comes in straight lines and Fury’s boxing brain and ability should be too much.”. Can Fury become a world champion again?. Wardley: “In the current state of the heavyweight division, I can’t see how Fury becomes a world champion again. He would have to fight either me or Usyk – and do I think he can beat either of us? No.. “If the titles get fractured – if Usyk is stripped of a belt for one reason or another – and Fury fights someone like Lawrence Okolie or Agit Kabayel for a vacant title, then yes, he can become champion.”. Jonas: “It will be difficult for anyone to regain a world championship at heavyweight if Usyk doesn’t vacate. It all depends on him.”. Bunce: “Anybody in the top 20 or so heavyweights could become a champion in the next 12 to 18 months. Fury can definitely become a champion again. If Usyk decides to give up one, two, or even all of his belts – then Fury would be a major contender.”. Gallagher: “I think he can. It all depends on the sanctioning bodies and what happens with vacant belts and stripping champions. He’s a two-time world champion – as is Anthony Joshua – and I’m sure the race is on between them to be a three-time champion.”. Croke Park could stage Fury v Joshua in September. 20 hours ago. Fury unlikely to be world champion again – Wardley. 1 day ago. Tyson Fury Unfiltered. Could Fury beat Usyk?. Image source, Getty Images. Wardley: “I don’t think he would beat Usyk right now. For me personally, there’s no appetite in it either. I think at the moment we want to see Usyk in with someone different.”. Jonas: “I would love to see the trilogy but I just don’t know it will happen. Do
