The incident took place in BTM Layout on Sunday evening, according to a report by India Today. What particularly drew public outrage was the sight of one of the pillion riders calmly drinking from a beer bottle mid-ride. While he had a helmet on, the rider and another passenger were without any protective gear, further highlighting the disregard for basic safety norms.. The video quickly triggered backlash online, with many users calling out the stunt as irresponsible and dangerous, especially in a busy urban setting where such actions could easily lead to serious accidents involving pedestrians and other motorists.. Taking note of the viral clip, Bengaluru City Police initiated action on their own. Officials began tracking down those involved by analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding area along with the visuals circulating online. This led to the identification and arrest of all three individuals, who were found to be doctors working at separate private hospitals.. Police later confirmed that the accused were released on bail, as the offences filed against them fall under bailable categories.. In a separate update, Bengaluru Traffic Police highlighted the scale of traffic violations in the city. During a special enforcement drive conducted between March 16 and 22, authorities registered 634 cases of drunken driving. Additionally, fines amounting to ₹1.29 lakh were collected for speeding violations over the same period.

This comes after her conviction on January 14 under several sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).. Andrabi, who founded the all-women separatist group Dukhtaraan-e-Millat in 1987, was arrested in April 2018. She was charged under the UAPA for conspiracy to carry out terrorist acts, being a member of a terrorist organisation seeking the secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India, and supporting such groups.. The trio was convicted by the court on January 14, 2026, for several offences under the UAPA and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including conspiracy to commit terror acts and waging war against the state.. After her conviction, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought life imprisonment for Andrabi, saying that she had waged war against India and that a strong message must be sent that plotting against the State would invite the strictest penalty.

PM Modi described as “unacceptable” any attempt by Iran to block maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. He said India has engaged with all stakeholders through diplomatic channels and successfully facilitated the movement of Indian vessels out of the affected zone..  A man and his sister were killed and two others were injured in a cylinder explosion in a dilapidated house near the Lahartara private bus station in Varanasi on Tuesday, police said. The deceased were identified as Om Kumar Chaudhary 28, and Preeti 25, police said. Their brother, Aman Chaudhary, 31, and mother, Girija Devi, 60, are under treatment, police added..  The Supreme Court on Tuesday held that conversion to Christianity and other religions results in the loss of Scheduled Caste (SC) status, holding that a person who professes a faith other than Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism cannot claim the constitutional protections available to members of SC.. The court said once an individual voluntarily converts and actively practices another faith, the legal entitlements tied to SC identity, including protection under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, cease to apply. Upholding an Andhra Pradesh high court judgment, the bench of justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan said once an individual voluntarily converts and actively practices another faith, the legal entitlements tied to SC identity, including protection under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, cease to apply.. It endorsed the high court’s reasoning that the constitutional scheme under the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, restricts the SC status to specified religions, and that conversion beyond this framework automatically disqualifies a person from claiming such status. The court underscored that the determinative factor is the religion professed at the time of the incident, not merely the existence of a caste certificate.. The ruling arose from a case involving a pastor from Andhra Pradesh who invoked the SC/ST Act, alleging assault and caste-based abuse by certain individuals in his village. The accused challenged the proceedings on the ground that the complainant, Chinthada Anand, had converted to Christianity and was actively functioning as a pastor, thereby disentitling him from invoking protections meant exclusively for the SC.. The Supreme Court noted that the facts on record left little room for doubt. The petitioner had not claimed any reconversion to his original faith nor any re-acceptance into his caste community. On the contrary, evidence showed that he had been practising Christianity for over a decade and regularly conducting prayer meetings as a pastor. The bench observed that these “concurrent facts” clearly established that he continued to profess Christianity at the time of the alleged incident, making him ineligible for the SC status and the protections flowing from it.. The decision effectively endorses the Andhra Pradesh high court’s April 30, 2025, ruling delivered by Justice N Harinath, which had quashed the criminal proceedings initiated under the SC/ST Act. The high court held that the caste system is alien to Christianity and that a person who has voluntarily converted cannot seek the benefit of a law designed to address caste-based discrimination within the Hindu social structure and its legally recognised extensions..
