Al Jazeera denounces the killing of a journalist in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza. Three hours and 43 minutes ago. David Gritten här. Miljöverket. Al Jazeera has denounced the death of one of its Palestinian journalists in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, calling it a “deliberate and targeted crime.” Mohammed Wishah, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher, and another individual were killed in a drone attack on a vehicle in Gaza City on Wednesday, according to the Qatar-based outlet and local health authorities. The Israeli military claimed Wishah was a “Hamas terrorist” who posed a threat to its troops, justifying the strike. Al Jazeera has not yet responded, though both the network and Hamas have previously rejected any links between Wishah and the militant group. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) also strongly condemned the killing. He is the 11th Al Jazeera journalist killed since the Gaza war began, amid a six-month fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. WHO suspends Gaza medical evacuations after contractor killed by Israeli troops. Local sources report 10 killed in Israeli strikes and clashes between Hamas and militia in Gaza. Skepticism about Gaza peace grows as focus turns to Iran. Witnesses reported that Wishah was riding in a vehicle with another Palestinian on the coastal road west of Gaza City when it was struck by a missile from an Israeli drone. Videos shared online afterward depicted the vehicle consumed by fire. On Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed their forces had targeted Wishah, accusing him of serving as “a key terrorist in Hamas’ rocket and weapons production headquarters” while “operating under the guise of an Al Jazeera journalist.” It stated that he was “actively involved in planning attacks against IDF troops and posed a concrete threat to forces in the area.” As evidence, it referenced a February 2024 post by the IDF’s Arabic spokesman, which featured photos that he claimed depicted Wishah handling weapons, including a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.
