Apple Update Frees Families From Sharing Only 1 Payment Option

​At last, Apple’s Family Sharing plan is gaining some financial flexibility. Apple’s iOS 26.4 update won’t reach all iPhone users until March 25, but its release notes feature a welcome change. Family group members will no longer be limited to a single payment option. An Apple representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The change is visible in Apple’s updated payment details. Previously, Family Sharing let you add people to a single group (up to six) to share purchased content. However, with Purchase Sharing enabled, every group member had to use the single payment method selected by the family organizer, leading to numerous frustrations. Family organizers seldom wish to grant permissions or approve purchases for members they already trust. Certain family members turned to Venmo for reimbursing each other, or to purchasing Apple gift cards and adding funds to them for payments. New purchase methods are coming to Family plans in iOS 26.4. Apple. iOS 26.4 eliminates that inconvenience. Soon, adult family members in Family Sharing can use their own saved payment methods—possibly in Apple Wallet—without any workarounds. This applies only to adults, allowing continued monitoring of kids’ purchases. The payment method update is one of several changes Apple is introducing in iOS.
