Last week, AT&T launched its refreshed unlimited phone plans, but that’s not the sole update to its service offerings. On a support page launched at roughly the same time, the carrier announced that prices for its “retired” unlimited wireless plans—those still in use by customers who haven’t upgraded—will increase by up to $20 beginning next month. AT&T is rolling out two price adjustments in April. For accounts on a “retired” plan with just one line, the price increases by $10. For accounts with two or more lines, the price hike is limited to $963 total. To soften the blow, impacted plans will include an additional 20GB of monthly hotspot data. AT&T’s support page states, “This change enables us to keep delivering dependable network service, high-quality products, and excellent customer experiences.” An AT&T spokesperson told CNET, “We understand that any price hike affects our customers and their budgets.” This rise accounts for the actual expenses involved in maintaining the speed, reliability, and support that our customers rely on daily. AT&T claims that its new plans are competitively priced compared to those of other carriers and “better aligned with how our customers use our services.”
