On Friday, the Union home ministry notified the West Bengal government that 2,200 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be deployed in the state prior to the assembly elections. Even after the elections conclude, around 500 companies will remain stationed in the state to curb post-poll violence. While 480 companies were already deployed earlier this month, the Centre will send an additional 1,920 companies in phases over the next month. “The first batch of 300 companies will be inducted by March 31.” Two additional batches of 2003 companies each were scheduled to arrive by April 7 and April 10. By April 13, an additional 277 companies would arrive. An officer from the state home department stated that the final batch of 743 companies would arrive by April 17.
