Frankie Muniz Recalls Turning Down ‘SNL’ Due To Massive Crush On Amanda Bynes

On the Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis, Frankie Muniz—best known for Malcolm in the Middle—shared how he passed up a golden opportunity in his youth because of his crush on fellow child actor Amanda Bynes. Muniz, who had built an impressive early résumé with roles in My Dog Skip and Agent Cody Banks, says his real dream was to appear on All That alongside Drake Bell, Josh Peck, and, of course, Amanda Bynes. He described that possibility as a childhood dream, fueled by his crush on Bynes, who would later headline her own show, The Amanda Show.

Although Muniz didn’t end up in the cast of All That or The Amanda Show, his dream of meeting and collaborating with Bynes came true soon afterward when he was invited to host the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, with Bynes as one of the other co-hosts. He recalled thinking, I’m going to meet Amanda Bynes, right? It’s a massive deal, and I’m really excited.
