The 178th Grand National is here, featuring 34 declared runners ready to face the daunting fences of the world’s most famous steeplechase. With last year’s winner Nick Rockett sidelined earlier this week due to a coughing spell, 2024 champion I Am Maximus has become the top favourite this year. The French-bred bay gelding is one of eight entries in the field from Irish trainer Willie Mullins’ stable.
Meanwhile, Dan Skelton’s Panic Attack is heavily fancied to become the first mare in 75 years to win the 4-mile race. The Grand National is held at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. The horses are scheduled to line up for the starter’s orders on Saturday, April 11, with the race due to start at 3:23 p.m. local time (BST) in the UK. In the United States and Canada, that is 8:00 a.m. PT or 11:00 a.m. ET. In Australia, the meeting will be on Sunday, April 12, AEST.
The inaugural Grand National took place at Aintree in 1839.
