BBC Sport journalist Charlotte Coates brings you the key details for Saturday’s Grand National at Aintree: the runners, the riders, the trainers and the form. The piece, updated on 9 April 2026, is a joint rundown with John Hunt and Gina Bryce from BBC Radio 5 Live on all 34 contenders for the 2026 Grand National. Note that the odds quoted are approximate and may change. Three horses have already been declared non-runners: number two Nick Rockett, number seven Spillane’s Tower, and number 35 Pied Piper. For the racecard, you’ll see the number, horse, trainer, jockey, recent form, age and weight carried (for example 11st 12lb being the top weight). The form codes are explained as F for Fell, P for Pulled up, U for Unseated rider, and S for Slipped up.
John Hunt’s Grand National predictions list Panic Attack, Grangeclare West, Jagwar and Jordans as his top four, with Quai de Bourbon noted as the best outsider. Gina Bryce’s Grand National picks feature Grangeclare West, Monty’s Star, Panic Attack and I Am Maximus, with Spanish Harlem identified as the best outsider.

I Am Maximus. Image source: PA. Trainer: Willie Mullins (IRE). Jockey: Paul Townend. Form: 82-925. Age: 10. Weight: 11-12. Gina notes that this one won in 2024 and then finished second to stablemate Nick Rockett last year on faster ground. Mullins’ Aintree specialist is again well positioned, just a pound higher in the weights. Rating: 8/10. Odds: 7-1.
Banbridge. Image source: PA. Trainer: Joseph O’Brien (IRE). Jockey: JJ Slevin. Form: 7-4423. Age: 10. Weight: 11-11. Gina says Banbridge won the King George in 2024 and came within a nose of repeating that feat at Kempton this season. He will likely enjoy a faster surface, but questions remain about staying this trip given past runs over longer distances. Rating: 5/10. Odds: 50-1.
Grangeclare West. Image source: PA. Trainer: Willie Mullins (IRE). Jockey: Patrick Mullins. Form: 5-8481. Age: 10. Weight: 11-10. John notes he finished third last year, beaten by only three lengths, showcasing class but with a few issues in the run. He was hampered at Valentines Brook (fence 25) and made a late mistake at the last fence a year ago; with more patient tactics, there could be more to come. Rating: 7/10. Odds: 9-1.
Gerri Colombe. Image source: PA. Trainer: Gordon Elliott (IRE). Jockey: Jack Kennedy. Form: 3-P321. Age: 10. Weight: 11-10. Gina says he has returned from a long absence and improved with every run, notably finishing a close second to the well-fancied rival when the pace was on.
