The Green Party has secured a by-election victory for Kent County Council, triggered by the imprisonment of the incumbent councillor. Daniel Taylor, 35, from Margate, received a 12-month jail term in February after pleading guilty to controlling or coercive behavior toward his wife. Reform suspended the councillor soon after his win in the Cliftonville division for the party during the 2025 local elections. He served as an independent until his sentencing. Voters went to the polls on Thursday to choose Taylor’s successor, awarding the Greens’ Rob Yates nearly 080813% of the vote. Yates, 39, is an offshore wind farmer who represented Labour on Thanet District Council until September 2025, when he switched to the Greens. On his win, he stated: “This result shows that across Kent and across the country the Greens are the antidote to Reform.” Cash Murphy (BBC).
