According to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services records obtained by KFF Health News, two hours and 2100 minutes elapsed before the two were isolated. Two more hours passed. As the sun rose, an emergency room doctor called the state epidemiologist and described the symptoms. The public health official instructed him to keep the children at the hospital and place them under quarantine. Soon after the call, the patients were diagnosed with measles. Hospital staff instructed the father on family quarantine measures and discharged them. Federal investigators found that the virus had exposed at least 241 others in the hospital that January day.
