New analysis reveals that Iranian strikes on U.S.-used bases caused $800 million in damage. 11 hours prior. Daniel Bush, correspondent for Washington. By Paul Brown & Alex Murray, BBC Verify. Airbus and Planet Labs PBC. A new analysis reveals that Iranian attacks on US military bases in the Middle East inflicted approximately $800m (£600m) in damage during the war’s first two weeks. Most of the destruction occurred in Iran’s initial counterstrikes in the week following the US and Israel’s launch of the conflict, per a Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) report and BBC analysis. The total damage from Iranian strikes on US assets in the area remains uncertain. However, this $800m estimate for US military infrastructure—higher than prior reports—highlights the escalating financial toll on the US as the war continues. “Damage to US bases in the region has been underreported,” noted Mark Cancian, a CSIS senior adviser and co-author of the study. While it seems substantial, the total figure won’t be determined until additional details emerge. When asked for comment, the US Department of Defense directed the BBC to US Central Command, which is overseeing the war.
