Local Dem leader says he was not ‘an aggressor’ after arrest for hitting man with bullhorn at ‘No Kings’ rally

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!. The chair of the Hernando County, Florida, Democratic Party who was arrested for allegedly hitting a man in the head with a bullhorn during a “No Kings” protest, said that he did not act as an aggressor and did not escalate the confrontation.. Brian Stewart, 63, was charged with simple battery, a misdemeanor in Florida, and booked into the Hernando County Sheriff’s Detention Center after the incident in Spring Hill on Saturday. He was released later that day, records show.. Stewart said he is “not a violent person” and that the man he was accused of hitting — a disabled veteran identified as Thomas Michta in police reports — was harassing others at the demonstration “in an attempt to elicit a reaction.”. “This was a peaceful event attended by many members of the community,” Stewart told Fox News Digital.. FLORIDA COUNTY’S DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR ACCUSED OF HITTING MAN IN HEAD WITH BULLHORN AT ‘NO KINGS’ PROTEST. “Unfortunately, an individual disrupted that environment and was harassing rally attendees in an attempt to elicit a reaction,” he continued. “At no point did I act as an aggressor. I am not a violent person, and I did not seek out or escalate any conflict. I never expected that I’d be accosted or need to defend myself as I did in that moment.”. The incident happened as demonstrators in Hernando County and across the country protested against the Trump administration’s policies.. Deputies responded at around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday to the intersection of Mariner and Cortez boulevards, where Stewart allegedly struck Michta in the head with a bullhorn.. Michta told deputies he was walking through the protest when he and Stewart became involved in an argument. He accused Stewart of striking him during the dispute and reported being in pain, with a visible lump on his head, according to an arrest affidavit, WTSP reported.. According to the affidavit, video footage captured by a witness and reviewed by deputies showed Stewart using a bullhorn to hit the man in the head and push him in the chest.. After reviewing the video, a witness’ statement and Stewart’s own admissions, deputies said they developed probable cause to believe Stewart intentionally hit the man and caused bodily harm, the affidavit says.. Stewart declined to comment further, saying his lawyers advised him not to make additional public statements.. “I have many more thoughts to share, but my lawyers advise that I should defer doing so until after the case has concluded,” Stewart told Fox News Digital. “Out of respect for the legal process and on the advice of counsel, I will not be commenting further on the specifics of the case at this time.”. Stewart is scheduled to appear in court on April 27.. LATE-NIGHT HOST JIMMY KIMMEL SHOWS UP TO ‘NO KINGS’ PROTEST WITH KIDS, HOLDS ‘ENOUGH ALREADY’ SIGN. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP. Alleged MS-13 trio went ‘hunting’ in brutal American cross-state killing spree, prosecutors say

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!. Three alleged MS-13 gang members went on a deadly “hunting” spree across California and Nevada, targeting victims in a string of brutal killings meant to boost their status inside the notorious gang, federal prosecutors said as the trial got underway this week.. The defendants, Jose Luis Reynaldo Reyes-Castillo, David Arturo Perez-Manchame and Joel Vargas-Escobar, are facing a 34-count federal indictment that includes murder, attempted murder and kidnapping in aid of racketeering, along with weapons charges tied to at least 11 killings.. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada, the men, identified as alleged MS-13 members and associates, are also charged with using firearms during crimes of violence, causing death with a firearm and aiding and abetting, in what prosecutors describe as a racketeering case tied to a series of killings across California and Nevada.. The trial, unfolding in federal court in Las Vegas before U.S. District Judge Gloria M. Navarro, is expected to last up to three months.. FOUR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS LINKED TO MS-13 INDICTED FOR ALLEGEDLY MURDERING 14-YEAR-OLD BOY IN MARYLAND PARK. During opening statements, prosecutors described what they said was a years-long pattern of extreme violence, with victims allegedly targeted based on little more than suspected ties to rival gang members.. According to reporting from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Assistant U.S. Attorney Melanee Smith told jurors the attacks were often random and carried out to build reputation within MS-13.. “They went out hunting, looking for people they could kill,” Smith said.. NEVADA JUDGE FREES CONVICTED MS-13 KILLER DESPITE GOVERNMENT WARNINGS ABOUT PUBLIC SAFETY. Prosecutors detailed multiple killings, including the death of 19-year-old Abel Rodriguez, who was stabbed so many times he was left unrecognizable, and Izaak Towery, who was abducted and stabbed 235 times after being mistakenly identified as a rival gang member.. “Towery had no idea what was going on,” Smith told jurors.. Authorities allege the violence was intended to elevate the defendants’ standing within MS-13, also known as La Mara Salvatrucha, a transnational gang that originated in Los Angeles and now operates across the United States and Central America.. ICE SEEKING DETENTION OF 3 ALLEGED MS-13 MEMBERS ACCUSED OF MURDERING 14-YEAR-OLD BOY. Court filings describe MS-13 as a structured criminal enterprise where violence was the path to power, and members were expected to carry out killings to rise through the gang’s ranks.. One of the cases tied to the defendants dates back to 2018, when 21-year-old Arquimidez Sandoval-Martinez was abducted from a Las Vegas nightclub. According to court records, he was bound with shoelaces, driven into the desert and killed. His body was found nearly two weeks later on federal land outside the city..
