Madhuri Dixit Nene’s sari draws on the woven motifs of Sambalpuri patta silk

Madhuri Dixit Nene donned a royal blue and rani pink Sambalpuri patta silk sari from Boyanika, spotlighting one of Odisha’s most iconic handloom traditions upon her appointment as ambassador for the state’s handloom sector. The sari showcases an all-over design blending large-scale floral and geometric motifs. The border features zari detailing and extends back along the pallu. Sambalpuri patta saris, crafted in Odisha’s Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Sonepur areas, are renowned for their detailed ikat method, where warp and weft yarns are tie-dyed prior to weaving to produce the signature feathered pattern. They frequently incorporate motifs like conch shells, wheels, florals, and temple-inspired shapes, embodying the visual language of Odisha’s textile heritage. In Dixit’s sari, the motifs stood out in vibrant pink on an electric blue background, creating a strikingly vivid weave. Styled by Sukriti Grover, she accessorized it with temple jewelry from PNG Jewellers, featuring a multi-layered rani haar, coordinating jhumkas, stacked kadas, and rings. The beauty look combined warm peach-coral eyeshadow with liner, fresh skin, and a pink lip. Madhuri Dixit Nene’s Gauri and Nainika gown lets florals dominate.
