Mandelson faces £300 fine for urinating in street

Mandelson risks £300 fine for street urination. Fifteen hours ago. Byline: Rosemary McCabe, London, Reuters. Lord Peter Mandelson faces a potential £300 fine for urinating in public in London, but Kensington and Chelsea Council can’t locate an address to send the fixed penalty notice. The council informed the BBC it’s “looking to issue” the notice following the November incident but “just can’t find an address.” Mandelson was dismissed last year as UK ambassador to the US due to his connections with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and is currently under criminal investigation for allegedly sharing market-sensitive government information with him. The BBC has sought comment from Mandelson. The ex-ambassador was seen relieving himself against a wall in Notting Hill, west London, after a late-night visit to former Conservative chancellor George Osborne’s home. The Daily Mail published photos of the incident in the upscale area. Council street enforcement officers weren’t present, preventing an on-site fine, but the authority plans to proceed based on the images and public reports. Lacking an official address, the fine remains unissued. The penalty is up to £300, or £150 if paid within two weeks. AFP via Getty Images. Lord Mandelson, a former Labour minister, has been a prominent figure in British politics for decades and played a pivotal role in the New Labour movement that propelled Sir Tony Blair to a landslide victory in 1997. In December 2024, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer named him the UK’s ambassador to Washington. He was dismissed from the post last September after Downing Street revealed new details about the extent of his ties to convicted paedophile Epstein. In late February, the ex-ambassador was arrested at his London residence amid a probe into allegations that he leaked Downing Street emails and market-sensitive data to Epstein.
