New Hampshire suspect who shot officer and triggered massive manhunt killed in police gunfight

Matthew J. Masse, 38, allegedly fired on family members and a responding officer Saturday afternoon in Raymond, prompting a large-scale manhunt with road closures and a shelter-in-place order. “There was an exchange of gunfire between Mr. Masse with his rifle and the officers,” according to the state Attorney General’s Office. After that exchange, officers discovered Mr. Masse deceased upon reaching his location. An autopsy is set for early this week to determine his cause and manner of death, the office stated. The suspect—a middle-aged white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 202 pounds—allegedly had active felony warrants for attempted arson at his family’s home on Thursday. Following the shooting, the suspect, Masse, fled into a wooded area, prompting a massive manhunt with K-9 units deployed and officers collaborating intensely with other agencies in an all-out search.
