Record stand as Surrey draw with Warwickshire

Image source, PA Media. 6 April 2026. 164 Comments. Rothesay County Championship, Division One, Edgbaston (day four). Surrey 328 & 447-4: Lawrence 161*, Smith 132, Burns 55. Warwickshire 544: Mousley 144; Albert 3-80. Warwickshire (16 pts) drew with Surrey (11 pts). Match scorecard. A record partnership between Jamie Smith and Dan Lawrence saw Surrey safely to a draw after Warwickshire had dominated much of their County Championship fixture at Edgbaston.. Smith struck a polished 132 from 261 balls and Lawrence an equally assured unbeaten 161 off 258 in a stand of 217 in 64 overs as Surrey batted through the final day to reach 447-4.. The implacable fourth-wicket pair took full advantage of a pitch that just got better and better for batting.. There was little that Ed Barnard, in his first match as Warwickshire captain, could do but rotate his array of seamers in the hope of inducing errors.. It proved a forlorn hope as Surrey erased their first-innings deficit of 216 and then batted on to secure a draw with which they will be very happy, having been in disarray at 65-6 on the first afternoon.. Surrey resumed on the final morning on 169-3, still 47 behind, way behind in the game but in conditions which offered them a way out of trouble if they batted with the required diligence.. They did so, as Smith and Lawrence knuckled down to add 105 from 31 overs in the morning session.. Warwickshire’s seamers persevered nobly, with Ethan Bamber and Beau Webster most threatening, but the fourth-wicket pair batted with solid technique and total concentration.. The session yielded just two half-chances, both offered by Smith. On 60 he edged Chris Woakes high past the shoulder of Sam Hain at slip and on 76, he drove Jordan Thompson to extra cover where Webster got a hand to a difficult chance but couldn’t hold on.. The batters advanced relentlessly to their centuries in the afternoon, Smith’s arriving from 199 balls and Lawrence’s from 152, before becoming the third and fourth members of the team to put their names in the record books during this match.. In the first innings, Ben Foakes and Tom Lawes broke a 120-year-old record for Surrey’s seventh wicket against Warwickshire.. Three days later, Smith and Larwence matched the achievement, their 217 partnership surpassing the county’s previous fourth-wicket best against the Bears – 213 by Tom Hayward and Edwin Goatley at The Oval in 1906.. The alliance when Smith lifted Rob Yates to long on. His job was done, though, and all that remained was a final session of Lawrence and Ben Foakes (36*) enjoying a gentle outdoor net against the spin of Yates and Dan Mousley.. It was a low-key end to a match which contained some excellent, competitive cricket and from which both sides will take plenty of positive.. Surrey, having copped the worst of the conditions early in the match, showed the fortitude and skill not to lose it. Warwickshire, their top order all showing promising early-season form, were well on top against s

ICE arrests illegal immigrant accused of kidnapping 4-year-old girl from laundromat

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained an illegal immigrant who was released back into the community after allegedly kidnapping a 4-year-old girl from a laundromat in New York, a report said.. The Department of Homeland Security told the New York Post that Carlos Corte-Corte, 38, of Ecuador, was taken into custody by ICE on March 31 and placed into removal proceedings following the March 28 incident at Laundry Kingdom in Patchogue.. “This three-time deported criminal illegal alien, Carlos Corte-Corte, kidnapped an innocent four-year-old girl from a laundromat on Long Island. New York sanctuary politicians chose to release this kidnapper from jail to prey on more innocent children rather than cooperate with ICE law enforcement,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis told the newspaper.. “Sanctuary politicians must stop putting politics above public safety,” she reportedly added. “This type of insanity leads to more crimes and more innocent victims.”. ICE IMPERSONATOR BRUTALLY BEATEN BY STREET MOB, DHS SAYS MAN NOT ASSOCIATED WITH AGENCY. The Suffolk County Police Department said that, “While a woman was with her two children at a laundromat, located at 138 East Main St., Carlos-Corte, who was unknown to the woman, led her 4-year-old daughter out the back exit of the laundromat, at 12:08 p.m.” on March 28.. “Her mother reported her missing, and patrol officers responded to the scene, where they reviewed surveillance video and began canvassing the area. During the search, the mother located her daughter in the children’s play area of the Patchogue-Medford Library, located at 54-60 East Main St. A patrol officer then located Corte near the laundromat and took him into custody,” police added.. Corte-Corte was charged with second-degree kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.. DHS SLAMS ‘INSANE’ 5-YEAR PLEA DEAL FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHO ADMITTED FATAL STABBING IN VIRGINIA. The day after his arrest, a Suffolk County district judge freed Corte-Corte on supervised release with a GPS monitor, the New York Post reported.. The newspaper said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney disagreed with the judge’s decision and added that, “I think if you look at the facts of the case, clearly they’re concerning.”. “He thought the girl lived alone without parents,” the New York Post quoted Corte-Corte’s public defender as saying in court. “He took her to the library and told an employee there as such, but there was a language barrier. It seems to be a mistake.”. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for further comment.

Minnesota deny ex-Everton forward Rodriguez has muscle-wasting condition

Image source, Getty Images. ByElizabeth Botcherby. BBC Sport journalist. 35 minutes ago. Minnesota United have denied rumours that midfielder James Rodriguez is suffering from a potentially life-threatening muscle-wasting condition.. The Colombia international returned to the club’s training ground on Monday after being hospitalised.. Rodriguez, 34, showed signs of illness during Colombia’s 3-1 defeat by France on 29 March and subsequently spent three days in hospital with severe dehydration.. A statement from the Colombia Football Federation on 2 April confirmed Rodriguez was under observation for a “non-sports-related medical condition” but said his prognosis was “favourable”.. Social media rumours and reports in some US media sparked concerns he was suffering from rhabdomyolysis – a rare condition sometimes linked to over-exertion which causes muscles to disintegrate and can lead to potentially fatal kidney damage when toxic muscle fibres enter the circulatory system.. However, Major League Soccer (MLS) side Minnesota United said:, external “The club and our medical professionals can unequivocally state there has been no clinical or laboratory evidence of rhabdomyolysis.”. Rodriguez, who won two Champions Leagues with Real Madrid and also played for Premier League side Everton, participated in a “supervised return-to-activity session” on Monday. His return to full training will be guided by the club’s medical staff.. Rodriguez has made two MLS appearances since joining Minnesota United in February.. Related topics. Major League Soccer.
