Saba Azad steps out in a Tom Ford-era Gucci gown that’s dripping in sequins

Saba Azad wore archival Gucci from Tom Ford’s Fall/Winter 2004 collection, styled by Devki Bhatt, in a look shaped by cut-outs and narrow connecting bands. The gown, covered in deep blue sequins, is cut into a halter that draws the eye up to the neck before opening across the front. From one angle the surface appears almost continuous; from the side the construction becomes clearer. Sections are cut away at the waist and side, with slim bands linking the front and back panels. Those openings are what give the gown its tension.

A sheer chiffon strip runs vertically along the side seam, interrupting the sequin field with a softer, semi-transparent section. At the back, the fabric falls into a loose cowl and extends into a short train, which shifts the line of the gown when she turns.

Jewellery from Ishhaara is kept minimal and Karchung Gurung kept her hair away from her face, finishing into a sculptural, folded ponytail. Makeup by Myrra Jain stays in the no-makeup makeup territory with soft definition at the eyes, light moving across the cheekbones and a muted lip.

Vintage Gucci has been a crowd favourite on red carpets. The vault opened for global ambassador Alia Bhatt as she attended the series premiere of The Ba***ds of Bollywood in an ivory slip from Gucci fall/winter 1996. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, the gown had panels of side cut-outs and a gold-buckle belt that gave the satin a hard, modern edge, while the white Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag read like a punctuation mark.
