​The wedding ceremony itself leaned closely into tradition. “This culture is over 2,000 years old, which means it has survived maybe 100 or even 200 generations. The least we can do is be custodians of it and pass it on to one more generation”, shares Allu. Once again dressed by Anamika Khanna, Allu wore a dhoti and a khanduva, while Reddy wore a Kanjeevaram saree, with Khanna adding delicate design touches to the blouse and finishing details. She paired it with a vaddanam, the traditional gold waist belt worn by South Indian brides and a vintage diamond necklace featuring old-cut stones from L. Bajrang Pershad.. The ceremony took place at a farm called Aina, where the team recreated the ambience of a temple through the décor. Among the many rituals planned was the Jeelakarra Bellam, “That’s the moment when the marriage is considered official in our tradition,” says Reddy. The couple places a mixture of herbs and jaggery on each other’s heads while making their vows. “The belief is that when it’s placed on the forehead, the Agnya Chakra is activated, and the vows taken at that moment become sacred,” adds Allu.. The most memorable moment, however, happened before the ceremony even began. “The police had cordoned off the entire venue for security reasons and weren’t letting any cars in,” Allu recalls. “Nayanika was running late and they stopped her car. She kept saying, ‘I’m the bride,’ but they didn’t let her through until a few people from inside came to get her.” Once they realised who she was, security quickly cleared the way, allowing her to rush in for what Allu describes as “a very brisk bridal entry.” “It honestly felt like a movie scene,” he adds.. Looking back, Allu says the biggest takeaway from the celebrations was the support that surrounded them throughout. His brother and sister-in-law, Allu Arjun and Sneha Reddy, were the first to arrive at every event across the five-day celebrations. “He made it a point to personally welcome and spend time with everyone who came. He really went above and beyond.” Alongside them, Reddy’s sister and brother-in-law “meticulously planned everything and never once let us feel the stress of it,” says Allu. “In a few years, Nayanika’s sister might get married, and then my niece,” he adds “Watching how they stepped in and took on the role of hosts made us realise that someday we’ll be on that side too, organising weddings for the next generation.”

​There’s also a less linear, but in my opinion, essential byproduct of pursuing a hobby on the side of your day job: it allows you to regularly interact with people from different walks of life that you wouldn’t ordinarily meet. “Once you join the workforce, you tend to get boxed in,” expresses Kezia Anna Mammen, who got together with her St. Stephen’s classmates Mishka Lepps and Sonalika Aggarwal to develop unLecture, which hosts university-level lectures on topics like star clusters or computational gastronomy in bars and coffee shops. “Doctors only interact with other doctors, architects only interact with other architects, I know lawyers who don’t have friends who are not lawyers. It makes you lose perspective and stop caring about the world outside that box.” The talks then become icebreakers for people to connect over. “We’ve started to notice that people who came by themselves for the first couple of lectures started to stick around and grab a drink together afterwards,” adds Aggarwal. “I think that’s so nice, you see someone in the same space over time, and you just end up becoming friends.” According to Harsh Snehanshu, who co-founded multi-city lecture community Pint of View with Shruti Sah, and has watched lectures sell out within hours, the community is half the draw. “There was a lecture on black holes that got sold out very quickly, and funnily enough, that same lecture was already on YouTube for free,” he shares. “We sent the link to people who couldn’t get tickets, but they insisted they would wait for us to host it again, as they wanted to attend in person.”. Hobbies can open up new avenues for you to apply your core professional expertise in ways that your formal job doesn’t allow, as I learned from dermatologist Shareeq Khan, whom I met while volunteering at a public park–turned-food forest in Mumbai. Khan is the founder of private label cosmetics manufacturer Neuriva Life Sciences, where he is looking into how stress and pollution impact skin health. While dermatology usually addresses this through medication or topical treatments, Khan’s experience working in the park taught him how even small pockets of green can minimise the amount of dust floating through a space. He rallied folks in his building to convert a once-dilapidated compound into a garden. “I used to immediately develop red rashes on my skin when I would sit in the compound of the building, but after we brought in all the greenery, that went down,” he shares. “A lot of people used to get dengue during the monsoons, but since the cleanup, there hasn’t been a single case.”  

​For Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda’s wedding reception, Sreeleela turned up in an emerald green anarkali. Just two days earlier, she was spotted in a soft pistachio green anarkali. It took over ten days to come to life.” The richness of the silk kurta is paired with a wispy Chanderi dupatta that introduces subtle sheen and a lightness to the look. The dupatta features two-tone Chanderi in shades of light green arranged in linear patchwork, while its borders echo the same zardozi and gota patti detailing seen on the hem.. With the anarkali’s traditional silhouette and heritage embroidery combined with the fresh shade and open back, the ensemble looks of-the-moment rather than conventional. This best-of-both-worlds approach makes it the kind of design that can transition across occasions. Styled smartly, it can work for a daytime celebration and just as well for a glam cocktail soirée.
