Namita Thapar on managing anaemia: Why haemoglobin levels alone aren’t sufficient and ferritin is crucial (Source: Instagram/Namita Thapar). Entrepreneur and Shark Tank India judge Namita Thapar recently highlighted her extensive experience with anaemia and the importance of ferritin in women’s health, spotlighting a commonly overlooked issue. In an Instagram post showing her connected to an IV drip, Thapar noted that although her hemoglobin levels eventually stabilized, her symptoms persisted due to low ferritin — the body’s iron storage. In her words, “Even with normal haemoglobin levels, low ferritin can lead to ongoing fatigue, lackluster skin, hair loss, shortness of breath while exercising, heart palpitations, anxiety, brain fog, and low mood.” In her caption, she elaborated on why ferritin warrants greater attention, stating: “Most people don’t know about FERRITIN.” These are your iron reserves. You might have normal haemoglobin levels, but if your ferritin is low (under 70), you’ll still experience all the symptoms of anaemia. Additionally, if not addressed promptly, it affects your sleep, heart, and immunity (sic).
