Suspect allegedly guns down deputy in ambush during routine call that rocked quiet town, police say

The LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office released a statement announcing LeMay’s passing. They said it was done “with a heavy-hearted sadness” and described him as “a loving son, brother and father” as well as “a true service to the people.” The department stated that “his sacrifice will never be forgot, and his legacy of dedication and service will live on in all of us,” noting April 19, 2026 as his End of Watch. Officials also said a patrol car has been placed at the front lawn of courthouse to honor LeMay, with community members being invited to leave decorations. The statement concluded, “Blessed is the peacemaker.” The District 16 District Attorney’s Office confirmed to Fox News Digital that the case was handled by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. They declined to comment on the matter further. The OSBI has said that there is no current threat to the public.FOLLOW XA witness Robert Linscomb told KNWA/KFTA he sat in traffic near the scene when he heard over a dozen shots and backed off. He said he heard 15 more shots about two minutes later before a SWAT car arrived. The investigation is ongoing.
