Texas officials name victims of Austin bar shooting. Four hours ago. Brandon Drenon. Authorities have named the three individuals killed by gunfire outside a bar in Austin, Texas, after a gunman opened fire early Sunday morning. Police state that Ryder Harrington, 19, and Savitha Shan, 21, were among the fatalities in the shooting outside a bar frequented by University of Texas students. On Monday, authorities reported that the third victim, 30-year-old Jorge Pederson, had also died. Over a dozen people were wounded in the shooting, with some still in critical condition. The suspected gunman, Ndiaga Diagne, was shot dead by police. The FBI stated it was investigating a possible “nexus of terrorism” connection to the war in Iran, along with other potential leads. Police responded to reports of an active shooter around 02:00 local time (08:00 GMT) on Sunday near Buford’s bar in Austin, where they shot and killed the suspect. Diagne, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Senegal, according to BBC partner CBS News. Officials noted that two victims were students but could not yet identify their university. “We recognize this is a deeply traumatic time for our city,” Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said during a Monday briefing, adding: “I can’t imagine the grief, pain, and loss these families are enduring today, and my heart goes out to them.” Two individuals close to the investigation informed CBS News that the shooter wore a sweatshirt bearing the phrase “Property of Allah.” An official familiar with the probe also revealed to CBS that police searching the suspect’s residence discovered an Iranian flag and photos of Iranian officials. The incident occurred over the weekend when the US and ally Israel conducted several strikes on Iran, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that federal and state authorities would probe any potential terrorism links. “We will not rest until every lead or scrap of evidence is followed to see if anyone else was involved,” Abbott stated during a Monday press briefing. “And if there was, we will hunt them down, locate them, and deliver justice.” Reuters. In a previous briefing, Police Chief Davis stated that officers patrolling the bustling bar district of East Sixth Street swiftly responded to reports of a man with a gun at Buford’s, farther along on West Sixth Street. She explained that a man in a large SUV passing by Buford’s activated the hazard lights, lowered his window, and fired a pistol, hitting people on the patio and pavement outside the bar. He then parked nearby, exited with a rifle, and began walking back toward the bar, per Davis.
