Raes announced today that its new boutique hotel The Bonobo By Raes will open in Byron Bay, Australia, this June. Bookings are now open. The Bonobo is a contemporary lifestyle hotel that offers flexible accommodation, a Lobby Lounge with all-day dining, drinks and retail experiences. Raes’ signature hospitality and service are also a part of this destination. Reset will be the hotel’s wellness partner and bring a holistic approach for wellness at The Bonobo. Marty McCaig is the group general manager at Raes. He says that The Bonobo brings a more social expression to Raes right in the heart of Byron Bay. It has been designed to be a hotel that people can move around easily, whether they are staying, meeting up with friends for a drink or stopping by for a wellbeing treatment. We can build something that is connected to the community and still deliver a premium experience to guests by partnering with Reset. We look forward to opening The Bonobo’s doors very soon.” Following the opening of Reset’s Double Bay studio in Oct, Reset will expand its wellness offering to Byron Bay. Reset at The Bonobo features traditional cedar saunas as well as ice baths. There is also a magnesium bath, a eucalyptus steamed room, and showers with vitamin C. A private treatment room will be dedicated to LED light therapies, facials, and restorative treatments. The treatments will be available both to hotel guests and to the wider Byron Bay Community. William Schrumpf and Melissa Schrumpf, co-founders and creative directors of Reset, say that they are delighted to partner up with Raes and introduce Reset to Byron Bay. Our vision has always included creating a space that is thoughtfully designed and offers a holistic and deeply personal approach to wellbeing. Reset will be a personal experience, centered around private and small group sessions in an elevated environment that feels like a private home. The Bonobo is a perfect opportunity to translate the experience we created in Double Bay to a new setting – creating a restorative, yet considered experience that reflects Byron Bay’s spirit and community. “The Bonobo will consist of 33 hotel rooms along with 4 one-bedrooms, 28 two-bedrooms and 9 three-bedrooms. All managed by Raes. The accommodation is perfect for families and large groups who are looking for flexible, spacious accommodations. It also offers the option to combine adjoining rooms into larger multi-bedroom apartments. Raes’s service, design integrity, and attention to details will be maintained. All residences will feature a kitchen and laundry for effortless longer stays, and will be equipped with appliances from Breville, featuring pieces from its Aboriginal Culinary Journey collection.ADVERTISEMENTLocated at 116-118 Jonson Street, Byron Bay, The Bonobo is a modernist three-level building designed by Richards & Spence, with interiors by Studio Manifold. Studio Manifold created a cohesive experience that complements the bold architectural form of the building, while grounding it with materiality that reflects Byron Bay’s coastal setting. The studio used natural timbers, stone, plaster, and soft plaster finishes to create a sense calm and understated elegance in the Lobby Lounge and courtyard, as well as the rooftop pool, hotel rooms, and residences. Jason Saxby, the two-hatted executive chef of Raes Dining Room, will curate the hotel’s food and drink offering. The Lobby Lounge is a relaxed all-day area with seating for 50 guests. It’s designed to evolve seamlessly throughout the day from morning coffee to long lunches to afternoon aperitivo. The rooftop and in-room menus will feature a modern take on classic hotel dishes, such as a cheeseburger, steak frites, and club sandwich. The offering is available daily between 7am and midnight, in the room, on the terrace or at the rooftop pool. The Bonobo is a cultural landmark in the centre of Byron Bay, connecting locals and tourists, old and young Byron. It offers a dynamic, yet boutique accommodation for those who are looking for spacious, flexible accommodations with Raes’ hallmark service and style. The Bonobo by Raes is scheduled to open in June 2026. Retail partners will be announced over the next few months. Hotel bookings are available now via https:/thebonobo.com.au/.
