This year the festival is set to be observed on April 15, 2026, with the Sankranti moment noted at 9:39 AM on April 14, according to Drik Panchang. Celebrated on the first day of the Bengali month Boishakh, the festival signifies fresh starts, prosperity, and cultural pride. People adorn traditional attire, participate in lively processions and performances of folk music and dance, and enjoy festive treats. It is also when merchants begin new ledgers called Haal Khata, and families come together to share greetings, fostering a sense of renewal and unity.
