Why is it that I see Thanksgiving decorations everywhere?
I understand Halloween decor, but Thanksgiving is still months away. It’s also just a stone’s throw away from Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Christmas. It all feels too soon.
I am ready for cooler temperatures. I can stay in and curl up on the couch while I watch this week’s streaming content.
‘Hocus Pocus 2,’
Speaking of Halloween: Nearly 30 years after Bette midler died, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy blessed us – or cursed us. The official film for Halloween is widely considered to be the best. Now, the three of them are back as our favorite witches in a sequel.
The movie resurrects the Sanderson sisters as well as some of the original movie’s premise. A trio of high school students must stop them from seeking revenge (against Salem) after they accidentally unleashed some dark magic on them and brought them back to life. You might be tempted to light the Black Flame Candle and hear Midler sing a show tune.
Disney+ now streams “Hocus Pocus 2”.
‘Blonde’
Ana de Armas definitely nails looking like Marilyn Monroe.
The Bond girl is getting rave reviews for her role in the new movie “Blonde” and how she channels the Hollywood bombshell, who died in 1962 at 36.
“Blonde” is a dramatization of the life and death of the tragic actor. It uses an unconventional (and controversial) narrative to reveal the true Norma Jeane Mortenson through layers and beyond her fame.
It’s available now on Netflix.
‘Yvonne Orji: A Whole Me’
If you saw “Momma I Made It!” Yvonne Orji’s first HBO special – you probably giggling about the title of her second.
In “A Whole Me,” “Insecure” star returns with a comedy show that mixes stand-up with scripted skits. She talks everything, including the Covid-19 pandemic, dating, and relationships, as well as sharing some hilarious stories about her parents who played a key role in her first special.
Orji’s new special will air tonight at 10pm on HBO. It will then stream on HBO Max. Both of these channels are owned by Warner Bros. Discovery).
Bj?rk, undoubtedly one of Iceland’s greatest musical exports is back with new music.
“Fossora,” her 10th album is, was explained by her to Pitchfork as a manifestation of her “fungus period”.
She explained that the album was a result of underground mushrooms, but not tree roots. “A tree root album would have been quite strict and stoic, but mushrooms can be psychedelic and pop up everywhere.
“Fossora,” is now available.
Since Rita Wilson’s “Hip Hop Hooray!” in the early days after the pandemic, I have been obsessed.
Let’s not forget, as this performance would suggest, she is also a talented singer. “Rita Wilson Now & Forever” is her latest album. It features collaborations with major artists such as Keith Urban, Josh Groban and Willie Nelson.
Wilson stated in a statement that these songs felt like my Great American Songbook because of their songwriting and the impact they had on him. “I was thinking about these songs and how they could be conversation between two people. I liked the idea that the lyrics could be written from two perspectives, even though they were written for one person to sing.
The album is also available now.
Kelly Ripa is pouring the tea.
She discusses in her new book “Live Wire”: Long-Winded Short Stories how difficult it was at times with Regis Philbin, her former cohost of “Live with Regis and Kelly”.
People who loved the daytime program, which ran from 2001 through 2011, on ABC may be surprised at the start of the show.
Ripa, who shared details about her challenges with People, said that Philbin, her hair and makeup team, showed up at the start of her cohosting gig. She joked with Michael Gelman, their producer, “Uh-oh Gelman, it’s got a entourage.”
“I felt horrible,” Ripa recalled. Ripa said that while he was trying to be funny, it felt like a pile-on. Although I can understand why he didn’t want a cohost I felt the network required me to be the host and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. It was unfair to him. It was also unfair to me.”
I found that the story helped me understand Ripa’s tension with Michael Strahan, her “Live with Kelly and Michael” cohost, who famously quit the show in 2016, despite Ripa’s complaints that she was not the first to hear of his decision.
Any hard-earned money is likely to be jealously protected.
Celebrities are known for using their platforms to promote the greater good. This is a common theme that I admire in them.
So I was delighted to learn from Marianne Garvey, a CNN colleague, that Megan Thee Stallion, a rapper, has launched “Bad B*tches have Bad Days Too”, a website offering mental health resources.
Megan Thee Stallion garnered fascination from many with her determination to graduate college while being a multiplatinum-selling artist, and her latest project further confirms how very much she values education.
I consider the rapper a bigger star because she teaches her fans self-care and self-help.
