Christina Ricci’s thoughts on Misty, her ‘Yellowjackets’ character
CNN
—
Christina Ricci will be the first one to admit that she doesn’t like Misty Quigley, her terrifying “Yellowjackets”, character.
Ricci says that she would not choose to be friends or family with her Emmy-nominated character. She still enjoys playing her, even though she is not trustworthy.
She adds that she enjoys playing characters who don’t conform to the same social norms as us. “It’s great to be able to play someone who isn’t bound by any morality other than her own. I enjoy playing characters who don’t express their emotions in a traditional way.
Ricci, who has been acting since she was 9 years old in “Mermaids” with Cher, claims she sometimes thinks she knows where Misty will take her, but she is often taken in an unexpected direction.
Her method for playing someone so complex is to take all she knows about Misty, such as her “obsessive need” to make friends and connect with people or her “30-years of constant rejection”, and ask what it turns a person into.
“What is the behavior that results from that?” She asks. “Really, my process is just sorting of taking the facts about a person and extrapolating and just kind of filling out the character. Based on their behavior, I think I would be able to flesh out a character.
Ricci is currently filming Season 2. Her experience on set is very different to the one she had when she was pregnant. She was nine months pregnant with Cleo and covered it up with baggy sweaters.
She laughs and says, “It is easier to perform without being pregnant.” “Even just being capable of curling up, you know?” They said last year that they would reach out to pick up the object from the ground. I was unable to reach out and grab anything from the ground. Then there were steps I had a to take, but I was pregnant and had sciatica.
Ricci has an eight year-old son named Freddie, whom she shares with James Heerdegen. She also has three fur babies, which she claims she loves more than most people.
She says, “I love animals.” “I don’t consider myself to be very friendly, but I will always talk with dogs and cats.”
Stella & Chewys is her partner in her spare time. She loves Stella & Chewys’ raw, natural dog food, especially for Karen, her best friend and late singer Karen Carpenter’s name.
“Karen has been traveling with me since I turned 29 and, oh, my God, before I had children, she was my first child,” she said. “And as she grew older, I wanted to make sure she was happy and able to live as long as possible. So I researched the best nutrition for her.
She says that the campaign is all about “raw love and showing your affection for your animals in all possible ways, as well as feeding them really well.”
It’s not easy to balance filming, family, and multiple producing projects. But Ricci, who is refreshingly open about having “an incredible nanny”, says that it’s “like any other family with two parents working – you just make the work work.”
