Germany begin their 2026 World Cup campaign against tournament debutants Curacao this weekend.
Since being crowned world champions for a fourth time in 2014, Germany’s performances on football’s biggest stage have been extremely disappointing for a nation of their stature.
Two group stage exits have followed since standing tall in Brazil, though they are expected to do much better in North America after being placed in a favourable group.
With Ivory Coast facing Ecuador in the other Group E fixture, it’s important Julian Nagelsman’s side get off to a flying start, otherwise another early exit will be on the cards.
Curacao, meanwhile, are an unknown quantity – particularly on the world stage having qualified for their first-ever World Cup by getting the better of Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica among others
Date, kick-off time and venue
Germany vs Curacao is scheduled for a 6pm BST kick-off on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The match will take place at the Houston Stadium, Houston Texas.

That said, we expect Germany to seal a comfortable victory here – even if Curacao show plenty of spirit.

Fifa World Cup 2026: Everything going wrong so far
📅 Published: June 11, 2026
But the tournament, this year hosted across 16 cities in the USA, Canada and Mexico, is caught up in President Donald Trump’s strict US border rules – and not everyone appears to be welcome.
It’s the latest controversy to hit the 2026 World Cup, after sky-rocketing match ticket and transport prices, fears surrounding high temperatures for athletes and fans, and the ongoing war between the US and Iran.
There are 39 countries with a full or partial US travel ban under Trump’s administration, according to the latest update by US Congress in January.
Iran, Haiti, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal are all playing at the World Cup – despite featuring on the list.
Somalian referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan was selected by Fifa as one of the World Cup’s 52 officials – but he was refused entry to the USA over “vetting concerns.”
Somalia is on Trump’s travel ban list and the administration has pushed for Somali deportations in the past.
Fifa has distanced itself from the Artan decision, confirming he will not referee in the competition – and saying it does not get involved in host country immigration processes.
