UPS plane aborts landing in near miss at same airport where November crash killed 15

NEWYou can now hear Fox News articles. A UPS cargo jet aborted landing at a Kentucky Airport on Tuesday to avoid another plane on the runway. An air traffic controller was heard shouting “What are you doin’?” According to FOX43, audio from the incident shows that the controller was heard telling the smaller aircraft (identified as Skylab 25) to stop before instructing the UPS jet to do a go-around. “Two-Five, stop!” yelled the controller, according to FOX43. SkyLab Two-Five what are you doing?” “A UPS spokesperson told WHAS11 the aircraft “safely conducted a go around” during its approach and that there was no operational impact or injuries.UPS spokesperson Michelle Polk said the maneuver — in which a plane discontinues its descent and circles back for another landing attempt — was carried out in line with standard procedure.Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 shows the aircraft descending to around 500 feet before climbing back to approximately 1,500 feet within a short span, FOX 43 reported.Louisville’s UPS Worldport is the company’s largest package handling facility in the world. The 5.2-million-square-foot hub is the heart of UPS’ global network. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board said that the plane’s left-hand engine caught fire shortly after takeoff. The aircraft only reached about 30 feet before crashing. Click here to download the FOX NEWS APPSurveillance video showed the engine detaching before impact. Investigators found structural flaws in the engine mount which likely caused the failure. UPS grounded its fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-11 planes following the crash. The FAA ordered inspections for the model. According to WKYT, both people on board were uninjured.

In a press release, police said the alleged abduction occurred just after 7 am on Monday, April 13 when a 16-year old student was waiting for her school bus in Hamtramck near Edwinand Brombach Streets. The video shows her standing at the bus station when a man approached her and held a gun to her back. He then forced her into the van. He was later identified as Donald James Joseph Arthur Fields (48). The officer can be heard saying, “You are being detained immediately.” Fields asked. “We’ll let you know in a moment,” the officer responded. According to authorities, the investigation revealed that Fields had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim before authorities could intervene. Fields has been charged with kidnapping and two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, felonious assualt, three counts felony firearm, and felon in possessing a firearm. He is currently being held at Wayne County Jail, after the judge deemed that he was the “ultimate risk” to the community. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym worthy said that the victim was walking in broad daylight and was sexually assaulted. “Despite the trauma she had just experienced, her quick thinking saved her life.
