No Botox, just ‘amla’ and ‘imli’: Kashmera Shah’s no-filter secret to aging at 53

Kashmera Shah talks about her anti-ageing secret (Photo: Kashmera Shah/Instagram)Kashmera Shah, 53, recently spoke about ageing, while stressing that she swears by eating good food. “I have done a lot of songs. I have maintained my body figure. I maintained my skin. A lot of things that today’s youngsters take… I don’t. Whether they are injections…I have not done any Botox or anything. Main khaana acha khaati hun (I eat good food). I eat salads mostly,” Shah told Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa on their YouTube podcast. She also admitted she doesn’t have a sweet tooth, which helps a great deal. “Mujhe meetha pasand nahi (I don’t like sweets). It is a good thing. I like amla, raw mango, imli with salt and red chilli powder,” she mentioned.DISCLAIMER: This article is based on information from the public domain and/or the experts we spoke to. Always consult your health practitioner before starting any routine.Dt Amreen Sheikh, chief dietitian at KIMS Hospitals, Thane, said that what you eat directly affects how your skin looks and how your body ages. “A diet rich in nutrients supports collagen production, reduces inflammation, and protects against oxidative stress, all key to maintaining healthy, youthful skin. While cosmetic procedures like Botox offer temporary results, good nutrition works on a deeper, more sustainable level,” said Sheikh.Foods high in antioxidants, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, help combat free radicals that speed up ageing. Getting enough protein aids skin repair, while healthy fats from nuts and seeds help keep skin elastic and hydrated. What does your skincare look like? (Photo: Freepik)Can good nutrition actually replace treatments like Botox? It’s important to be realistic, said Sheikh. “Nutrition can’t match the immediate effects of Botox, which works on muscle movement to reduce wrinkles. However, a balanced diet can significantly slow down visible signs of ageing and enhance overall skin quality. Think of it as a long-term investment rather than a quick fix.”Hydration is another important factor. Drinking enough fluids and eating water-rich foods can improve skin texture and prevent dryness, which often makes fine lines look worse.Story continues below this adWhat kind of diet supports healthy, glowing skin?A skin-friendly diet isn’t about expensive or exotic foods; it’s about consistency. Eating seasonal fruits, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, pulses, nuts, and seeds creates a strong nutritional foundation. “Foods rich in vitamin C support collagen production, while zinc and biotin help with skin repair and hair health,” shared Sheikh. It’s also essential to limit processed foods, excess sugar, and unhealthy fats, as these can speed up ageing and lead to dull, tired-looking skin. The goal isn’t to completely dismiss cosmetic treatments, but to realise that true, lasting results come from what you put inside your body. Janhvi Kapoor’s Pilates upgrade: Master the stability chair step up for strong glutes and core

Why Janhvi is a fan of the Wunda Chair. (Source: Instagram/@janhvikapoor)Janhvi Kapoor’s Pilates routine has just got an upgrade. The Param Sundari star was recently seen working out her glutes and core in a low-impact but high-intensity way. Palash Grover of Sanctum-House of Wellness shared that in trainer Namrata purohit’s most recent Instagram post, Janhvi is seen demonstrating a high level of functional mechanics. What is Stability Chair step up? According to Grover, Stability Chair is the “most challenging” piece of equipment available in Pilates. The chair has a pedal that is attached to springs, unlike a stationary bench. In this movement, the practitioner puts one foot on the seat, and the other on pedal. You cannot simply lift your bottom foot to rise. Instead, you must use your lead leg’s strength to lift the entire weight of your body while controlling the spring-loaded pedal as it rises. He said that Janhvi was performing the exercise without using handles to support her, which elevated the exercise from a leg move to a whole-body stabilisation challenge. Consult your fitness professional before beginning any exercise routine. It provides muscle fatigue similar in intensity to heavy weightlifting, but without impact on the joints. (Source: Instagram/@namratapurohit)Looking at the benefitsGrover also shared the health benefits of adding this exercise to your regular routine:1. Deep quad and glute sculpting: Due to the mechanical disadvantage caused by the chair’s high height and narrow surface, this exercise forces much more muscle fibre recruitment than a standard lunge. It is one of most effective ways to build power and definition in the lower body. Correcting postural imbalances. This is a unilateral movement. Most of us have one dominant side which overcompensates when we squat or walk. The Stability Chair reveals these cheats. The Stability Chair forces the weaker leg, which is crucial for joint health over the long term and preventing back pain from scoliosis, to do all the work. Intense core stability and pelvic stability. To remain upright without holding the bar, the body must engage both the Transverse Abdominis and Multifidus along your spine. Janhvi Kapoor’s Pilates routine is inspiring; see pics4. Injury prevention and improved proprioception. By training the body to stand on an unstable surface, such as the pedal, you improve your proprioception – the brain’s ability communicate with the muscles in order to remain balanced. This is why actors and athletes use this move. It protects the knees and the ankles from injury, preparing the body for the unpredictable daily movements or high-intensity sequences. This Pilates variation provides a similar burn and fatigue to heavy weightlifting, but without any impact on the joints. It increases bone density and muscle endurance while being kind to knee cartilage. Grover concluded that Janhvi’s form, particularly her hip alignment and control as the pedal rises is a testament of the discipline needed to master your own body weight. Consult your fitness professional before beginning any exercise routine.

‘She is the topmost actress’: Kangana Ranaut on Deepika Padukone’s 8-hour work shift demand; psychiatrist on ways to build healthier schedules across industry

Smita Prakash, Kangana Ranaut’s interviewer, said that Deepika Padukone has earned her place today. She is a mother and has a daughter. Today, she is the most prominent actress. She has earned the right to work 8 hours today. She is a mother and has a family. She’s earned the right to be in a position where people will say, “Wait – I want her.” It’s fine if she stays for eight hours, because we will work around her schedule. Why not? …”Her remarks echo an idea that has been simmering in the background for some time. Should flexibility be a standard for everyone or a privilege that is tied to seniority? According to Dr Pavitra Shankar, Associate Consultant in Psychiatry, Aakash Healthcare, Dwarka, while hierarchical flexibility has long existed in high-pressure industries, it may not be sustainable.DISCLAIMER: This article is based on information from the public domain and/or the experts we spoke to.”Work structures that reward seniority with better schedules can inadvertently normalise burnout for those earlier in their careers,” she explains. From a mental-health perspective, chronic fatigue and stress do not discriminate on the basis of experience or status. Dr Shankar stresses that fairness lies with creating baseline protections. “Healthy working hours shouldn’t be something that one ‘earns over time’. There should be minimum standards to ensure long-term health.”

Dr Shankar believes that such decisions can influence industry standards. She says that when high-profile people prioritize structured schedules, this opens up discussions about sustainability. “Defined hours of work improve emotional regulation, reduces stress, and enhances overall productivity.” She adds that life changes like motherhood can bring clarity to boundaries. Kangana Ranaut slams India’s food deliveryBuilding healthier schedules across the industry”The film industry needs systemic reform,” says Dr Shankar. Dr Shankar says that long, unpredictable schedules may cause anxiety, sleep disturbances and burnout.
Rest periods are mandatory

Designing work environments to reduce physical and mental stress
She emphasizes that “such measures should be applied uniformly.” “Health is not a privilege for a select few. It must be a part of the system.”DISCLAIMER This article is based upon information that was obtained from the public domain or experts we spoke with.

‘How can I quit coffee? I stopped for 2 days, and keep getting headaches. My BP has been on the rise lately and my doctor thinks quitting coffee might help lower it’

Coffee is a staple of many morning rituals. When rising blood pressure is involved, quitting coffee can become a priority. On Quora, one coffee lover shared their concern about the difficulty of quitting coffee: How can I stop coffee completely? I have headaches after stopping coffee for 2 days. My doctor believes that quitting coffee could help lower my BP. We decided to dig deeper, and we reached out to Dr Manjusha Agarwal of Gleneagles Hospital in Mumbai. She told us the key is not just quitting, but how you do it. Consult your doctor before beginning any new routine. Why quitting suddenly is so difficult. “Headaches can be a normal and common part of caffeine withdrawal,” explains Dr Agarwal. The body adjusts to lower caffeine levels. The safer way to stop coffeeLemon, coconut, or short walks could be good alternatives to coffee as they boost alertness naturally without raising BP. (Image: Pexels). While it may seem tempting, this approach can backfire. “It is better to taper your coffee slowly than to stop abruptly,” says Dr Agarwal. She also suggests that the “safest” way to reduce caffeine is to do so over 1-2 weeks. This will help prevent withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, fatigue and irritability. Story continues below this advertisement. Simple changes, such as switching to coffee with less caffeine or spacing out your intake, can make the transition easier. Staying hydrated and getting enough sleep are also important to reduce withdrawal symptoms. Matcha, black coffee, or green tea: Which one is better to consume for your gut health? A gastroenterologist explainsOvertime, “reducing or stopping coffee may help lower BP a little,” especially for those who are more sensitive. What can you drink instead? Giving up coffee doesn’t mean that you will lose energy. Green tea and herbal teas are milder on the blood pressure, and have less caffeine. Other simple alternatives, such as lemon water, coconut or short walks, can also boost alertness without putting additional strain on your system. Sometimes, the best way to quit coffee is to not rush at all. Consult your doctor before beginning any new routine.
