United Airlines launched its nonstop seasonal service between Glasgow Airport and its hub in Newark/New York to celebrate the arrival of its inaugural flight. United is the only U.S. carrier offering a nonstop flight between Glasgow and the United States. The route marks United’s first scheduled service between Glasgow and the United States in 2019. United is the only airline that offers daily year-round services between Scotland and the U.S. It also offers more seats and flights than any other airline. Karolien de Hertogh is Director Sales UK and Ireland at United Airlines. She said, “We are excited to be returning to Glasgow with our service to Newark/New York. This further highlights the importance of Scotland in United’s global network.” “With more seats available and more flights to the United States from Scotland than any other airline in the world, our customers can enjoy greater travel choices and the ability to connect seamlessly through our U.S. hubs with over 220 destinations across the Americas. Meanwhile, travellers from the U.S. will be able to fly to Glasgow to enjoy the city’s museums, iconic architecture and historic pubs. They can also explore the greater Highlands region.” The route has always been popular, and carried significant numbers of passengers as well as important Scottish exports like whisky and seafood. Newark Airport now offers passengers the opportunity to travel to a wide range of destinations in North America, making it easier for them to connect.
This new service is a significant boost to connectivity, providing a crucial link for travellers coming from the west coast, while supporting inbound tourism. It will bring more visitors into Scotland to experience its world-renowned attractions including golf, whisky, and spectacular landscapes.
This achievement reflects our team’s continued efforts and collaboration with partners in the Glasgow City Region. We remain focused on improving Glasgow’s network connectivity, while delivering a world-class passenger experience within our PS350 million investment program.
Councillor Susan Aitken said, “This is great news for Glasgow as well as for visitors and business travelers on both sides of Atlantic.” She is the Leader of Glasgow City Council and the Chair of Glasgow City Region Cabinet. The United States is our largest international market, and this direct service will make visiting Glasgow, doing business here, and experiencing all that our city and wider area have to offer, even easier.
It strengthens Glasgow’s connectivity to the world, supports economic growth, and attracts inward investment. It also highlights the city’s status as a forward-looking, international destination. “Congratulations to our partners at Glasgow Airport, and to United Airlines for the launch of this new route.”
United Airlines’ Summer 2026 schedule includes the new service between Glasgow/Newark/New York, highlighting its position as the largest U.S. carrier in the Atlantic with more destinations than anyone else. United Airlines will be the only U.S. carrier to offer nonstop flights from its hub at Newark/New York to four new destinations in Summer 2026: Split, Croatia, Bari, Italy, Glasgow, Scotland, and Santiago de Compostela. The airline will also add its first service between Washington/Dulles, and Reykjavik in Iceland, as well a new nonstop daily service from Newark/New York, to Seoul, South Korea.
United, the leader in transatlantic service from the U.S. to Europe and beyond, will continue this momentum in Summer 2026 by offering nearly 770 weekly roundtrips across the Atlantic. United will also continue to serve eight other destinations in 2026, including four new destinations and eight others from its largest expansion to date last summer. These include seasonal service to Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Nuuk (Greenland), Palermo (Italy), Bilbao (Spain), Madeira Island, Portugal, Faro, Portugal, and the year-round service to Puerto Escondido and Kaohsiung.
In 2026, United will offer almost 930 flights per day to and from 150 international destinations, including 43 that are not served by any other U.S. carrier.
